Donte Paige Moss Scouting Report DE/OLB North Carolina

facebooktwitterreddit

This is our Donte Pagie Moss scouting report. Moss is a defender for the North Carolina Tarheels who is coming off a disappointing season. Moss, heading into the 2011 College Football Season was often projected into the top 20 because of his pass rushing ability. Moss is now though often seen as a third round prospect and wasn’t even in our pre-bowl top 130 players on our big board.

Pros:

Good size, long arms, prototypical RDE length and could add more weight…high upside..Good motor…Good functional strength…can play the run

Cons:

Abysmal 2011 season, had trouble getting on the field…needs to use his hands better…consistently late off the snap…seems to have a lack of instincts…Doesn’t take the best angles to the ball carrier…won’t fit in every defensive system, should he get a little bigger and play 43 DE, or can he convert to 34 OLB?

Projected Round: 4th in 2011 (could be a lot higher in 2012)

Thoughts:

Donte Pagie moss would be doing himself a huge disservice he declared for the 2012 N.F.L. draft. He probably had the worst season in all of college football. That might be an exaggeration, but this is a guy who was getting mocked into the top 15 routinely prior to the 2011 College Football season and now he could last until the fourth round or later. Just abysmal season. Any team that takes him is going to be taking him on his upside. I’d be surprised if he declares for the 2012 N.F.L. draft.

NFLmocks preseason bio:

At least against Tennessee in the Music City Bowl, Paige-Moss doesn’t seem like a quick twitch, typical weak-side end that you would see in college football. He seems more like a powerful end who can collapse the pocket and drive his man backward. In fact, he lined up at times at defensive tackle in that game, and used his lower body strength to simply drive the offensive lineman into the pocket. Had solid numbers as a sophomore and finished the season 49 tackles, seven sacks, and 10 tackles for a loss. He is not a flashy defender, but he makes plays and has a ton of upside. If he can improve his pass rush repertoire, he could be a high pick in next year’s draft, almost certainly a high choice in the 2013 draft. Graded as one of the top prep-school players in the entire country and the top overall defensive end in the nation by Scout.com. Still has a lot of room for growth, and should be on everyone’s radar in 2011.
