What Does Your Team Need to Be Better Next Year?
By Editorial Staff
Living in St. Louis, the talk of the town has shifted away from the Rams and towards the Blues and Cardinals, who are tearing up the league and losing Albert Pujols respectively. The few football diehards still talking about the Lambs have shifted their foci to next year. With that following me around as I enjoy the Christmas season, I got the idea to focus on how best to answer this question: “So what do we need to be better next year?”
Arizona Cardinals: “We need clarity at the quarterback position and talent on both sides of the ball. In the next draft we should draft help for our offensive line as well as support for our secondary.”
Atlanta Falcons: “We’ll have trouble getting immediate help through the draft because of how much we gave up to get Julio Jones. With the picks we have left, we should try and improve the interior of our offensive line and the exterior of our defensive line.”
Baltimore Ravens: “We have great players in Ed Reed, Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs, but they won’t last forever. It’s time to start drafting players in the same mold if we have any hope of preserving continuity for our defense.”
Buffalo Bills: “If we hope to compete for the AFC East title next year, we will need increased talent at many different positions, including outside linebacker, wide receiver and tight end. Fingers crossed that we’re not the Toronto Bills by 2015.”
Carolina Panthers: “We’re actually not horrible, we just need elite talent. Drafting the best player available at the 10 spot or so should land us a great addition to our secondary, offensive line or wide receiving corps.”
Chicago Bears: “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but this team needs Jay Cutler to succeed. We need a true #1 receiver and legitimate offensive linemen.”
Cincinnati Bengals: “If we’re ever going to usurp the Ravens or Steelers, we’re going to have to do it on defense. We should draft the best available player on the defensive side of the ball for the first two rounds at least.”
Cleveland Browns: “Do we have time to wait and see if Colt McCoy is the answer? Regardless, this draft alone won’t make us competitive. We have to start a pattern of success, both on and off the field, and part of that is making hard choices. If we believe in Colt, we’ll draft the best player available. If not, we’ll draft the best remaining quarterback, probably Landry Jones or RG III”
Dallas Cowboys: “When will we realize that Tony Romo will not win us a Super Bowl? Probably not for a few years. Until then, we should pick up a cornerback.”
Denver Broncos: “We have no clue what’s going on and we love it. Nobody knows if John Elway actually likes him. We need more linebackers like Von Miller and an eventual successor to Champ Bailey.”
Detroit Lions: “If we ever want to be good again, we need to excel on both sides of the ball. To do that, we’ll need elite offensive linemen, linebackers and cornerbacks.”
Green Bay Packers: “What do you get for the team that has everything? The best defensive lineman around!”
Houston Texans: “Remember when our offense was the star of the show? It might be time to draft a franchise quarterback, but seeing as we’ll be drafting somewhere in the early to mid 20s, we should target a good wide receiver to upgrade from Kevin Walter and Jacoby Jones.”
Indianapolis Colts: “Uh, Andrew Luck? If not, any cornerback or offensive lineman.”
Jacksonville Jaguars: “Why did we draft Blaine Gabbert tenth overall when we could have drafted a quality lineman? Oh well. If we don’t bail on Gabbert we can get the best player available.”
Kansas City Chiefs: “Unless we lose enough games to justify a quarterback pick, we should draft a defensive tackle or offensive tackle. Barry Richardson is not the answer.”
Miami Dolphins: “Well, Matt Moore played just well enough to screw us out of Andrew Luck. We’ll get an offensive lineman or a defensive end.”
Minnesota Vikings: “Matt Kalil or Justin Blackmon, please. Whichever St. Louis doesn’t take.”
New England Patriots: “We don’t even know where we will end up picking, much less who we’ll pick up. Hopefully we’ll go through next season with more than veteran cast offs and undrafted free agents.”
New Orleans Saints: “We’re pretty good, but we could use a playmaker or two on defense.”
New York Giants: “Linebacker and secondary, as there are no franchise tight ends to be had in the first round.”
New York Jets: “Wide out or running back to help the Sanchize get to another AFC championship game.”
Oakland Raiders: “We traded all of our picks away for overrated players.”
Philadelphia Eagles: “We need a franchise linebacker and a leader for the future.”
Pittsburgh Steelers: “We need young talent to support players like James Harrison.”
San Diego Chargers: “We need a real offensive line.”
San Francisco 49ers: “If possible, a rusher to grow with Aldon Smith. If that proves impossible, then a wide receiver or free safety.”
Seattle Seahawks: “We need a franchise quarterback.”
St. Louis Rams: “We should trade the Rams to Sacramento for the Kings.”
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: “We need offensive line help, a replacement for Ronde Barber and/or Aqib Talib as well as general explosiveness and athleticism.”
Tennessee Titans: “We will take the best defensive player available.”
Washington Redskins: “We need a franchise quarterback and a successor to London Fletcher.”
