Marshall WR Aaron Dobson Shines in Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl

If Florida International wide receiver T.Y. Hilton hadn’t suffered an injury, this might have been the “T.Y. Hilton Show,” but that was not the case on Tuesday night as Marshall defeated FIU with a late touchdown on fourth down to seal the deal with about 30 seconds remaining, giving the Thundering Herd a 20-10 victory in the Beef O’ Brady’s Bowl.

A huge reason for that win was Marshall wide receiver Aaron Dobson, who recently submitted paperwork to be evaluated to see where he might be projected to go in this year’s draft.

That projection might have seen a bit of an increase after Tuesday night’s game, where Dobson scored both of Marshall’s touchdowns and caught seven passes in total for 81 yards. Dobson’s overall size and length were just too much for FIU to handle, in the end, even though the Golden Panthers were able to play a pretty excellent game overall defensively.

Despite an injury, though, FIU receiver didn’t do anything to hurt his stock with eight receptions for 88 yards, three carries for 23 yards and a touchdown, as well as two kick returns for 36 yards. This is a guy who constantly is getting the ball and he’s clearly the focal point of the offense. He can hurt you in so many ways with his excellent speed and quickness, and I think he is one of those underrated guys that could really make an impact out of nowhere in the NFL.

Marshall defensive end Vinny Curry was largely held in check, but he did finish the game with five tackles and a tackle for loss. He is a playmaker on the defensive line and FIU did everything they could to offset his impact on the game, throwing a lot of quick passes and trying to get guys like Hilton out on the edge on a jet sweep. Their blocking schemes were effective as Curry wasn’t able to get to the quarterback, and neither of FIU’s quarterbacks were forced into any mistakes.
