Scouting Report
Johnson had a really tough career at Miami, and it was pretty much all his own doing. He got himself kicked off the team after being one of the most highly sought after recruits in his class. He came in with a group of kids that was supposed to return the “U” to prominence, but a series of events led to the eventual demise of the football program, as it currently stands. Johnson is probably more talented than most of the receivers in his class, but his baggage will cost him on draft day. He reportedly lost 15-20 pounds off of his frame and has been working out all season to gain back his image. This is a kid who was called “Glue Hands” coming out of high school, but a terrible attitude caused him to ultimately fail in college. He has the size and speed potential to have a “Mike Williams” type impact in the NFL after sitting a year off, but he is going to need to show scouts he can catch passes again after a disappointing couple of years at Miami where fans saw potential go unrealized. One positive is that Johnson was allowed to continue pursuing his degree at Miami, and he will graduate with a degree in sports administration.
Personally, I’m excited to see how this guy can turn his life around. You always hear about failed comeback stories, but this one would be pretty cool in my opinion.
