Eli Manning’s 4th Quarter Comeback Aided by Jason Pierre Paul Blocked Kick/ Giants win 37-34
The New York Giants don’t like to do anything easy. The game seemed all, but over after a blown coverage resulted in a huge 50 yard touchdown pass from Tony Romo to Dez Bryant. But somehow, someway the Giants came back to beat the Dallas Cowboys 37-34. The Giants defense has struggled all season, but if you didn’t know Jason Pierre Paul is a Stud. Collinsworth praised Paul so much throughout the game I was half-expecting a wedding proposal.
Eli Manning had another come from behind victory his sixth of the season. He also threw for 400 yards with two touchdowns. Eli Manning has now gone for over 4,000 yards in a season with twenty touchdowns three seasons in a row. A feat not accomplished by legendary names like Tom Brady and Brett Favre.
It wasn’t pretty, the Giants defense gave up way too many big plays. The offense had too many unsuccessful trips in the Red-zone, but they came through.
Jason Pierre Paul was a man amongst boys. Collinsworth described him as an “octopus” and also said “if Jason Pierre Paul is not in the pro bowl an investigation should be launched”,.
For the game Jason Pierre Paul had six tackles, 2 sacks, one which resulted in a safety. Pierre Paul also forced a fumble at the end of the second half deep in Cowboys territory. To top if off Pierre Paul blocked the final field goal attempt. An attempt that occurred after a successful kick was nullified by the Giants icing the kicker.
The Cowboys squandered other opportunities as well. On third down, Miles Austin was open by 12 yards but Romo over threw the ball.
What a terrific fantastic game.
The Giants had some other help as well. On offense it was practically Eli Manning, Brandon Jacobs, Hakeem Nicks and no one.
Jacobs ran like a man possessed. He had 19 carries for 103 yards with two touchdowns. Jacobs saw a lot of throughout the entire game because Ahmad Bradshaw was benched for violating team rules for the first half. IN the second half Bradshaw had only 8 carries for 12 yards.
Victor Cruz had a really slow start to the game, but ended the game with 7 catches for 83 yards, but that paled in comparisons to Hakeem Nicks 7 catches for 154 yards.
If the Giants have any intentions of making the playoffs they must play much better on defense. They are again on an historically bad pace for yardage and points allowed.
What’s next?
The Giants now hold all the cards. They need to win two more games to clinch a playoff spot (the games have to be vs the Redskins and Dallas though). The Cowboys will also make the playoffs if they win out. On top of that with the Bears struggling and the Lions having a difficult schedule coming up, it is possible that both the Giants and Cowboys could make the playoffs if they each win two of the next three games.
