Star Lotulelei Scouting Report Defensive Lineman Utah
This is our Star Lotulelei scouting report. An unknown commodity in much of the draft community and someone I didn’t really notice until it was reported by Bucky Brooks that “With the 2012 defensive tackle class lacking depth, scouts are paying close attention to Utah’s Star Lotulelei*. According to an NFC South scout who recently visited Utah, the 6-3, 325-pound defensive tackle is a rare find. He’s stout against the run, capable of holding the point, while also displaying the athleticism to get after the passer. Although he still needs a little skill refinement, Lotulelei has all of the tools that scouts covet in a dominant interior defender.”

This scouting report is a work in action because I haven’t seen a ton of footage of him so after I watch more I’ll update this page.

Pros:
Great size…quick off the snap….really good functional strength…anchros well vs the run…has good closing, pursuit speed…
Cons:
Doesn’t have a ton of production (impacts the game more than stats indicate) and is kind of a one year wonder…needs to do a better job of maintaing leverage…raw, the dreaded “potential word”
Player comparison:
Round projection: 3rd-4th
With a good combine at his size and the lack of star power at the top of this class he could really valut himself high into the draft.
UTAH: All-conference candidate joined the team in late August of 2010 and developed into one of the best tackles on the team by season’s end … big and athletic, he will start at nose tackle this fall.
2010- Played in all 13 games, earning a starting job at tackle for the final three games of the regular season … 21 total tackles with 2.5 TFL and a half sack … five tackles and a half sack against San Jose State… four tackles vs. TCU included one TFL … four tackles vs. Wyoming … also made several cameo appearances at offensive guard.
PRIOR TO UTAH: Played for Snow College in 2008, making 52 tackles with 14 TFL, three sacks and one forced fumble … prepped at Bingham High (Utah), where he was first-team all-state by both the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News … 72 tackles and seven sacks as a senior in 2007 … Bingham went 14-0 and won the state title.
