College Football Championship Week Preview
By Editorial Staff
There will be a lot of games to watch this week with Championship Week in College Football. I will break down every key matchup over the next two days.
Friday December 2nd, 2011
MAC Championship Ohio Bobcats VS Northern Illinois Huskies 7 PM Eastern ESPN 2
Chandler Harnish is a very underrated NFL quarterback prospect. I have to go with Northern Illinois. Ohio has no chance unless they pressure Harnish. Harnish has 25 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns. Left tackle Elvis Fisher and center Scott Wedige anchor the Huskies offensive line. Ohio doesn’t have the NFL talent that Northern Illinois has. Ohio could keep this from being a double digit blowout if the Bobcats show heart. It would shock me if Northern Illinois lost this game.
PAC 12 Championship UCLA VS #9 Oregon 8 PM Eastern FOX
This game has Rose Bowl implications. A team playing for pride like UCLA always gets underestimated. UCLA is coming off a 50 to 0 loss to UCLA. UCLA could pull the upset. Still, its hard to pick against Oregon and their dangerous offensive speed. The key will be UCLA 3-4 middle linebacker Jordan Zumwalt VS LaMichael James the Oregon running back.
Syracuse VS Pittsburgh 12 PM Eastern ESPN 2
Both 5-6 Big East teams are playing a consolation game which results with the winner getting a Big East Bowl bid.
Conference USA Championship #24 Southern Miss VS #6 Houston 12 PM Eastern ABC
Houston is unbeaten. A win versus Southern Miss could get them into a BCS Bowl game.
Connecticut VS Cincinnati 12 PM Eastern ESPN
Neither Connecticut or Cincinnati will win the Big East. If Connecticut wins Louisville gets the BCS Bid for the Big East. If Cincinnati wins there would be a 3 way tie with West Virginia representing the BCS for the Big East. This game may not mean anything significant to these 2 teams, but it decides who wins the Big East.
#22 Texas VS #17 Baylor 3:30 PM Eastern ABC
Robert Griffin III has one last game to make a case for the Heisman. Robert Griffin III could be the Heisman Winner with a big game.
SEC Championship #14 Georgia VS #1 LSU 4 PM Eastern CBS
This SEC Championship game gives Georgia a chance to play a spoiler role. With a Georgia win LSU could remain in the Title game knocking Alabama out of the BCS Bowl Picture.
#10 Oklahoma VS #3 Oklahoma State 8 PM Eastern ABC
The winner of this game represents the Big 12 in the Fiesta Bowl. Both teams were in the National Title hunt at one point. Now these 2 teams are playing for a BCS Bowl trip.
ACC Championship #5 Virginia Tech VS #20 Clemson 8 PM Eastern ESPN
Clemson has 2 NFL prospects on the defensive line wit Brandon Thompson and Andre Branch. Virginia Tech
BIG 10 Championship #15 Wisconsin VS #13 Michigan State 8:17 PM Eastern FOX
The previous meeting between Wisconsin and Michigan State came down to the final play. This game has Rose Bowl implications on the line with the winner facing the UCLA VS Oregon winner.
