Buffalo Bills at New York Jets: C.J. Spiller’s Second Chance

facebooktwitterreddit

Today the struggling Buffalo Bills will travel to the New York Jets to take on the slightly less struggling New York Jets. A month ago both of these teams were looking really good for the playoffs, now the Jets have the inside track to the playoffs but could find themselves on the outside looking in with any more bad losses because they have 5 losses in their conference. The Jets also have three difficult games left at Philadelphia, with the Giants, and at the suddenly impressive Miami Dolphins. A slip up against the Bills will likely cost them a playoff birth.

The Bills go into this game banged up having lost their best offensive and defensive players for the season (Fred Jackson and Kyle Williams). T Demetrius Bell, is finally likely to play, but WR Donald Jones and Naaman Roosevelt are out. K Rian Lindell is out. CB Terrance McGee is out. S George Wilson is Out.

For the Jets they are rather healthy, just banged up. They have 16 players listed on their injury report. Jeremey Kerley and Landanian Tomlinson are the only two as questionable the other 14 are probable.

If you like watching you guys this is the game for you, especially the Bills who will be playing them in droves.

C.J. Spiller vs the Jets defense

C.J. Spiller has dynamic ability, but might just have been drafted by the wrong team. He’s behind one of the best all around backs in the league, Fred Jackson, who does not need to come out in passing situations. Well, now that he is out for the season Spiller will have many opportunities to prove his worth. Spiller is fast, shifty, and a terrific receiver (could probably play WR with a ton of seasoning). The Jets defense has struggled this year to stop the run and the past few seasons to cover running backs out of the backfield. If Spiller wants to prove his worth it starts today, if he has a huge day it will be great for the Bills chances today, but more important for the future.

I think Spiller’s speed could cause problems for the Jets in the screen game and is a very nice flex option for your fantasy football team.

Johnny White vs the Jets Defense

When C.J. Spiller is out of the game rookie running back Johnny White will likely get the rock. The Bills did claim Tashard Choice off of waivers so it’s possible that he becomes the go to guy, but I doubt this week. White has been there all season and knows the offense, it’s unlikely Choice has the offense down pat yet. Johnny White was one of NFLmocks favorite rarely talked about players and we’re real interested in seeing what he can do on Sunday, so far for the season he has 10 carries for 32 yards.

Marcell Dareus vs Nick Mangold

Dareus has played very well this year and has a bright future, but today he goes up against the league’s best center in Nick Mangold. This will be a real test for Dareus. If Dareus can best Mangold the Bills will have a good shot at winning the game, but that seems unlikely. The Bills have struggled to contain the run game ever since Kyle Williams got hurt, they need Dareus to play an effective nose tackle today, though his future is at RDE for the Bills.

Kelvin Sheppard and Da’Norris Searcy vs Shonne Green

I told you a lot of the Bills rookies will see playing time on Sunday, and I wasn’t kidding. Sheppard has been getting more and more snaps each week for . the Bills, and Searcy will see a lot of playing time (and likely start) with George Wilson out with an injury. Both players were drafted because of their abilities vs the run and both are limited in pass defense. Today is a big game for both of them. The Jets want to run the ball to take it out of Sanchez’s inconsistent hands and because the Bills can’t stop it. Their play will be a huge factor in how close those game ends up being.

Aaron Williams vs Plaxico Burress/Jeremy Kerley

I’m not sure how the Bills plan on playing the three wr front the Jets will run on passing downs with Terrence Mcgee out. Their top three cornerbacks are Leodis McKelvin, Drayton Florence, and Aaron Williams. McKelvin is having his best season as a pro. Williams is their biggest cornerback at 6′ 200 pounds. Will they put him up against Plaxico Burress and move McKelvin inside, or will they ask him to cover the small shifty slot WR? That’s a big question. In any case, Williams has his work cut out for him in Sundays’ game.

Muhammed Wilkerson

Wilkerson doesn’t have eye popping numbers he’s started all 10 games this season and has 27 tackles and one sack. In the last game vs the Bills he was basically invincible. I’d like to see what he does today.

Who in God’s name is going to play WR for the Bills?

Naaman Roosevelt is out with an injury, Donald Jones is out. That leaves Stevie Johnson, David Nelson…and??? Earlier in the season when the bills had injury problems they moved C.J. Spiller to WR. That’s not going to happen today with Spiller expected to get the Lion’s share of carries.

They just signed Derek Hagan and Sam Aiken, but what will they bring in such a short time on the practice field?
