Summary:
J.B. Shugarts was a top offensive lineman recruit in 2008, had a successful career at OSU, and earned himself a starting position in all four seasons.  Unfortunately, he did miss time due to injury in his freshman and senior campaigns.  He is a solid pass blocker, and above average run blocker.  However, his problem with false starts at OSU will hurt his draft status, as it clearly demonstrates a lack of control and discipline.  His best attributes are his massive size, quick feet, and quite frankly, his departure from Ohio State.  It has been shown in recent years that offensive linemen that leave the Buckeyes for the NFL discover a new world of techniques and instruction under new and different coaching.  This is a negative aspect of OSU’s coaching staff, but a good thing for any team willing to take a chance on a 6’7″, 300+ lbs monster that is essentially a clean slate and ready to learn.

NFLmocks preseason bio:
Shugarts is a bookend to Mike Adams.  He’s a sleeper at best with size being his biggest strength.  I would not be surprised if 7th round right tackle JB Shugarts had a better career than first round left tackle Mike Adams.
