NFL Draft Stock Watch Week 11: Brandon Weeden, Montee Ball, Lamar Miller, Nick Foles

facebooktwitterreddit

Time for a weekly draft stock watch. A few big names had really big weeks and one former lock for the high second round has been struggling.

Stock Up

Kawann Short, DL, Purdue

It’s impossible to do a draft stock watch without mentioning Kwann Short here. Short had a huge games vs Ohio State with 3 sacks, for the season Short has tallied 6.5 sacks playing defensive line for Purude. Short is a widely overlooked prospect who has good size and does a good job of shooting gaps, but has the functional strength and size to hold up against the run.

Cyrus Gray, RB, Texas A and M

One could argue that Gray had been outshone by teammate Christine Michael all year, but Michael is out with an injury and Gray stepped up big time against Kansas State. After consectuive games of behind held under 60 yards and under 4 yards per carry, Gray ran all over Kansas State with 30 carries for 218 yards and two touchdowns.

Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State

Weeden is a difficult prospect to project into the N.F.L. draft. There is no denying he has a lot of the qualities teams are looking for in prospects, but he’s going to enter the league older than Aaron Rodgers and even the best of quarterbacks take two or three years to mature into a good starter. Part of Weeden’s allure is also his good decision making, but is that a reflection on his age. He has the physical tools and is really showcasing them as of late. I still wonder how early a team will be willing to take him though

Montee Ball, RB, Wisconsin

Ball is a little difficult to evaluate because of how talented the Wisconsin line is, but is ability to produce is awesome. Ball rushed for another 166 yards this past weekend and is up to 23 rushing touchdowns this year. On top of that Ball has four receiving touchdowns (1 this past weekend as well). Whether he goes high or not in the 2012 NFL draft remains to be seen, but in the court of public opinion is stock is up.

Down

Nick Foles, QB, Arizona

Number of interceptions last week: 3. Number of interceptions in the last three weeks: 8. Number of interceptions in the last 6 weeks 12? Are you seeing a common theme here. Last year Foles through 10 interceptions all season, he’s really having a rough few weeks and is going to have to show better ball security to be a high second round pick like many thought he could be heading into the season.

Lamar Miller, RB, The U

Miller was going up against the Florida State Seminoles who have a very good run defense and I was wondering how he would do running in between the tackles and he churned out a lot of tough yards which was great to see, but he fumbled the ball twice and that’s a big no-no.  I still love Miller’s game, but that’s no tape he wants General mangers to see.  I still love Miller, but he needs to protect the ball better.

I’m only one man, I must have missed many players. Let me know who I’m missing.
