Quinton Pointer Scouting Report DB UNLV Rebels

This is our Quinton Pointer scouting report. Pointer is a forgotten man after a really nice 2009 season, but he’s a guy who could eventually stick on a N.F.L. roster. All of our other scouting report

Pros

speed…some return ability…asked to do a lot and does it fairly well (blitz, support the run game)…good open field tackler…leadership…could get looks at cornerback or safety from teams…

Cons

Doesn’t have ideal size…hasn’t made a lot of plays on the football…has an injury history (medical resdhirt in 2010 for an A.C.L. tear)…an older prospect…better straight line speed than playing speed.

Projection: Undrafted free agent

Thoughts

Pointer is a good athlete who has some speed and was a really balanced overall player in 2009. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2010 season because of an injury. He has some age to him, but anyone one looking for a fast, tough cornerback could do much worse than Quinton Pointer. He’ll likely go undrafted and get a tryout/training camp invite. I wouldn’t be that surprised if he ended up sticking on a roster though. He might not get invited to the combine, but a good 40 good get the league’s attention.

NFLMocks bio

Pointer returns after missing the entire 2010 season with a medical hardship, and will be starting for his third year with the Rebels. A pretty balanced overall player, Pointer has been an All Conference player and has 167 career tackles along with four interceptions. He will be 24 years old when he makes his NFL debut, and he is regarded as one of the fastest players on UNLV’s team. He hasn’t recorded an interception since 2008, but he returns this season as one of the team’s top returning players.
