2012 NFL Mock Draft 3 Rounds: Colts Really Suck (For Luck)
By Editorial Staff
Round 3
1. Indianapolis Colts Ray Ray Armstrong SS Miami
Colts secondary is getting exposed. A sander leaving has left a huge hole at SS…funny since he was a little guy…never mind. Anyways Armstrong at SS and Minnifield at CB have the Colts secondary in much better shape.
2. Miami Dolphins Levy Adcock OT Oklahoma State
Dolphins get a huge steal here. Adcock has replaced Russell Okung very well and appears able to handle LT in the NFL. The Dolphins would have him at RT which is probably his best position. With more young talent on the OL it is inevitable that the OL will eventually become good.
3. Arizona Cardinals Chase Thomas LB Stanford
Cardinals could use help at LB. Sam Acho and Darryl Washington appear to be hits but that leaves a hole at OLB and ILB. Thomas can play both well. He is a very capable blitzer who is very sound in run defense as well.
4. St. Louis Rams Kendall Reyes DT UCONN
Reyes would provide an interior disruptor that is lacking with the Rams. I know he is not a great run defender and that is what is hurting the Rams right now but hey, Rome was not built in a day.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars William Vlachos C Alabama
Center is a problem currently for the Jaguars. Vlachos is another ultra talented center in this draft. His ability to dominate the run game and be very sound on OL calls will help Gabbert out tremendously.
6. Chicago Bears (T) Sean Spence OLB Miami
Bears need to come out of this draft with LB talent. Urlacher is close to the end, WLB Briggs is requesting another trade, and SLB is a hole. Sean Spence will either fill the SLB hole or replace Briggs. Great steal this late in the draft.
7. Minnesota Vikings Dontari Poe DT Memphis
Poe is a quickly rising prospect. His ability to play 3-4 NT with his size and strength is intriguing. Not ready to put him ahead of Chapman and Alemeda but his talent bears watching. Vikings need some talent and youth in the middle of their defense.
8. Seattle Seahawks Bruce Irvin DE/OLB WV
Told people that Irvin was more athlete than player but hey what do I know. Still, Carroll seems to be a coach that would want to coach up his talent to meet production. Seahawks could use another pas rusher.
9. Denver Broncos Nick Foles QB Arizona
Broncos are willing to take a risk on anyone other than Tim Tebow right now. Foles has ability but has some alarming traits such as quick check downs, lack of pocket awareness, and the system he plays in simplify his reads.
10. Washington Redskins Nick Toon WR Wisconsin
Redskins badly need more receivers. Santana Moss is old and injury prone and than there is…..well no one unless Leonard Hankerson can develop. Toon gives them a solid target that is capable of making plays when healthy.
11. Dallas Cowboys Shea McClellin DE/OLB Boise State
McClellin has a tremendous motor and quickness to be able to make the switch to OLB. I think he will be what Spencer was supposed to be: A quality #2 pass rusher who can capitalize on all the attention on Ware on a consistent basis.
12. Philadelphia Eagles Cam Johnson DE Virginia
Eagles get a bigger DE who is capable of getting to the QB. I know he has only 3 sacks this season but injuries and not talent have limited him. Eagles front seven is highly improved in this draft.
13. Cleveland Browns LaMichael James RB Oregon
Browns defense and OL has been the focus so far but not it needs to shift to acquiring weapons for Colt. I for one do not believe Colt is the answer. He is a great backup and a mediocre number 1. That being said he needs weapons to be given a chance. RB and TE are now filled with talent.
14. Tennessee Titans Winston Guy Jr SS Kentucky
Chris Hope is killing the defense. Hope was a solid player but no longer. Guy Jr. is the right guy for the job and …..bad humor aside….will give the Titans a good S duo combined with Michael Griffith.
15. San Diego Chargers BJ Cunningham WR MSU
Chargers need some more offensive talent. Dwayne Allen and BJ Cunningham are the type of talent that fits into this offense. Chargers love big targets and now Rivers has a chance.
16. New York Jets Bobbie Massie OT Ole Miss
Jets get a mean, nasty RT whose absence has plagued this OL. Massie has some things to work on but has elite potential on the right side.
17. Tampa Bay Buccs Cyrus Gray RB Texas AM
Buccs have bruisers for RB’s but lack a pass catching threat out of the backfield. The combination of Blount and Gray will be a formidable one.
18. Chicago Bears Danny Trevethan OLB Kentucky
Now the Bears have two holes patched on the LB unit. Briggs and the hole at SLB are taken care of. Bears now can wait on Urlacher and get his replacement in 1-2 years.
19. Cincinnati Bengals Keith Tandy CB WV
I know the Bengals acquired Gilmore but they lack depth as well. Tandy is another physical CB who is a big time play maker. He had some trouble versus Rutgers but was not embarrassed. Tandy and Gilmore help out a lot in the long term.
20. Kansas City Chiefs Kheeston Randall DL Texas
Chiefs DL is lacking a 5 technique as well. Dorsey and Jackson have been mediocre. They need some more competition. With Allen Bailey and Randall pushing them it should be a solid DL next season.
21. Houston Texans Kendall Wright WR Baylor
Texans are acquiring WR’s to complement Andre Johnson. With Johnson and McNutt they have larger targets but Wright gives them a real speed threat the Texans have been missing.
22. New York Giants Colby Fleener TE Stanford
Eli really misses a TE in the red zone and on third downs. Fleener is a great safety net who is an under rated TE. Just ask Luck how important he is to an offense.
23. New Orleans Saints Ricky Wagner OT Wisconsin
What happened to this OL??? They are getting killed at OT and center. Wagner should go higher than this and I will probably change this on my next mock but as of now he gives the Saints a much improved RT.
24. Atlanta Falcons Lonnie Edwards OG Texas Tech
Falcons are getting mediocre play from their RG. Edwards is a real mauler who can mimic the play Harvey Dahl used to give them. Next draft OL will be a focal point at center and LT.
25. Buffalo Bills Shaun Prater CB Iowa
Bills could always use some more CB talent. McKlevin has never lived to the hype and Terrence McGee is aging. I think Prater will be a very sound slot CB. In the pass first NFL this is as good as a starter.
26. Pittsburgh Steelers Coryell Judie CB Texas AM
A running joke on third round CB that the Steelers love to collect. Judie has had injury problems this year but gives them a play making CB that the Steelers need.
27. San Francisco 49ers Delano Howell SS Stanford
49ers love Donte Whitner now but he will hurt them one of these games. His pass protection is mediocre. At least get him some competition. Howell is a smart defender who Harbaugh loved at Stanford.
28. Jeff Fuller Jeff Fuller WR Texas AM
Torrey Smith is looking like a good WR but the Ravens need to find an eventual replacement for Boldin. Fuller’s numbers are down this season but I think he is well worth the risk at this point in the draft.
29. Detroit Lions Ben Jones C Georgia
Lions are able to get future LT and Center in this draft. That’s a huge victory and I think the Lions would need to trade up to get Jones. I think once Vlachos or Jones goes the Lions move up to get the last remaining talent at center.
30. New England Patriots Jared Crick DL Nebraska
Given Crick’s injury he might fall further than this. If he can recover in time to perform well at off season workouts than he can go in this range.
31. Green Bay Packers Trumaine Johnson CB Montana
Johnson reeks of potential given his size, athleticism, and potential. His arrest has lowered his stock but Ted Thompson can afford to take risks and Johnson would get time to develop.
