Jeff Thomas Scouting Report LB/FB Indiana Hoosiers

facebooktwitterreddit

Jeff Thomas is a LB/FB from Indiana who won’t get drafted high but could be drafted late

We here at nflmocks aren’t only concerned with the top 64, or 100 best prospects in college football. We’re interested in everyone who might get drafted or added to a practice squad. Today we’ll take a look at one such player. Jeff Thomas the LB out of Indiana who played fullback all throughout high school. Thomas isn’t an elite athlete, which is going to hurt him in the N.F.L, but he could be a special teams guy, or a team might even think he could be turned into a pretty good full back.

Pros:

Pretty good size…good tackler…makes  a lot of plays in the backfield on the ball carrier…has played some fullback at Indiana…pretty good awarness…decent in zone coverage…hustles..A leader on the defense

Cons:

Lacks ideal sideline to sideline range…could improve his hand use to shed blockers…probably a two-down linebacker or special teams guy in the N.F.L….

NFLmocks preseason bio

Big,  linebacker who finished second on the team with 82 tackles last year after transferring from Foothill Community College in California. Enters his senior season as the leader of the Indiana defense, and definitely has some potential for the NFL if he can continue to hone his craft. In addition to his 82 tackles, he had 7.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, a sack, and a broken up pass. In 2009, he was the Nor-Cal Conference Defensive Player of the year with 104 tackles, 14.5 for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and six passes broken up. Solid instincts and good field awareness. Always around the ball. If he continues to improve, he might get drafted but he should definitely get a tryout next year. He definitely has the size, but does he have enough speed and athletic ability to play in the NFL?
