Denver Post Rips Tim Tebow: Worst Quarterback in the NFL
Well it didn’t take long for the Denver media to turn on Tim Tebow. Mark Kiszla had some things to say about Tebow, and it isn’t that nice. His opening lines,
So maybe we need a new definition for Tebowing. It’s a prayer for mercy. Please, in the name of heaven, bring us somebody who can actually play quarterback.
And continues later on,
Those five minutes of wonder against Miami now look like an aberration. Right here, right now, Tebow is the worst quarterback in the NFL.
And please remember this: Josh McDaniels drafted Tebow.
At this sorry rate of offensive efficiency, a 3-13 or even a 2-14 record wouldn’t be out of the question for the Broncos. Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy might not use all 64 crayons in the box, but any way you color it, Denver can’t win if Tebow fails to demonstrate passing skills that merit an opponent’s respect.
Unless the Broncos can land Stanford’s Andrew Luck or Southern Cal’s Matt Barkley in the 2012 draft, Tebow is a quarterback who could get coach John Fox fired in Denver.
It is true that Tim Tebow played poorly, but is it right to give up on him so early? With the trade of Brandon Lloyd the weapons Tebow has aren’t all world. Eric Decker is a nice receiver, but is not going to make anyone forget Lloyd. The offensive line also looked less than impressive vs a stout Lions defensive front that can put pressure on any team. The Broncos actually ran the ball surprisingly well yesterday, but haven’t really for the season. The point is, the Broncos have a lot of other issues than just quarterback. Though it also should be noted that Tebow has many areas to improve, one of the biggest issues Tebow has so far is his pocket awareness. In five games Orton was sacked a total of 9 times, Tebow has been sacked 13 times in the last two games.
Eli Manning once played a game at home vs Minnesota Vikings in which he threw four interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns. It was the second time in his career Eli Manning had thrown four interceptions in a game vs the Minnesota Vikings. Completed only 21 of his 49 pass attempts (42.9 percent of his passes) for 273 yards (5.6 yards per attempt) while getting sacked three times. He was booed out of the stadium and people openly questioned whether or not he could ever play quarterback in the N.F.L. He was then “the worst starting quarterback in the league”.
Boomer Eaisason added on WFAN this morning “You have to bench him his teammantes know they can’t win with him…well you can win they week…the likelihood is he just can’t play with this skill set in the N.F.L.
His own teammates didn’t have flattering things to say about him.
Jeremy Shockey: “If we play like that we’re not going to win against a high school team.”
Manning explained his personal horror show against the NFL’s 31st-ranked passing defense – and one that was missing its top corner, Antoine Winfield – by saying simply that the Vikings “just had a good plan.” Eventually he conceded that “I didn’t play well.
The game? Week 12 of the 2007 N.F.L. season. Of course you know the rest of the story, the Giants won three of their last five games to secure a wild-card berth were they then proceeded to win four games in a row in the playoffs (the first three on the road and the final one vs the 18-0 Patriots). After that each year, Eli Manning’s completion percentage has gone up and this year through 7 games he is averaging 8.8 yards per pass attempts and a 102.1 quarterback rating. He’s far removed from that dreadful 2007 performance vs the Minnesota Vikings
My main issues is this: if you thought Tebow was the answer before and after the Miami game, this one game shouldn’t sway your opinion. These things have happened before, and players have bounced back. If you’ve never thought Tebow was the answer, maybe you’re right, but at least you’ve been consistent.
