I will use this feature on every Sunday to update you on any significant draft moves involving the quarterbacks. I’ll do this to list any quarterbacks who made significant moves between Thursday and now. Two quarterbacks managed to move up on my draft board. Both of these quarterbacks are senior redshirt quarterbacks.
One’s perception of an NFL athlete changes on a weekly basis. That’s why this segment is reserved for 2012 quarterback prospects and why I will move that prospect up or down on my draft board.
This week I breakdown San Diego State quarterback Ryan Lindley and Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Before I break down A&M’s Tannehill I will start with San Diego State’s Lindley.
Ryan Lindley was a 5th round prospect who I compared to Kevin O Connell. I moved him up to a 4th round grade because of Lindley’s performance against conference foe Air Force.
Lindley got off to a sluggish start for San Diego State in 2011 despite losing his 2 best receivers with Brown and Sampson to begin the year. Lindley went 15 for 21 throwing 2 touchdowns and no interceptions against an Air Force secondary on the road.
Lindley now appears to be a 4th round prospect and is now my 7th best quarterback prospect and my 3rd ranked senior quarterback.
Ryan Tannehill was a 5th round prospect in my previous draft board. He performed like a day 2 pick on Saturday against Baylor. Tannehill has the ability to play like Matt Schaub with Tebow’s ability to embrace contact from hits. A&M’s quarterback is now a 2nd round prospect and the top senior quarterback prospect at this point.
Tannehill was originally a 3rd round prospect heading into this offseason. With poor performances against Oklahoma State and Arkansas I dropped him to a 5th round prospect. Tannehill looks like a 2nd round pick. Tannehill may not be a premium quarterback prospect, but he steps up to the plate when his back is against the wall at Texas A&M. It will be interesting if Tannehill remains this productive the rest of the season or reverts to his 3rd round form.
