Fantasy Football Start and Sit Week 6
Start:
Josh Freeman, QB, Buccaneers
Freeman was expected to have a breakout year this year, but has really looked off. He has only throw 3 touchdowns and has 6 interceptions. The Buccaneers got absolute embarrassed last week, this is the week Freeman needs to have a big game if he’s going to take a step forward this year. The Saints give up 25 points per game on defense so there are plenty of opportunities for points here, Also the Saints score a lot of points and could get up early meaning Freeman will have to throw a lot. I’m not starting him over Tom Brady or anything, but I would over a mid-tier option.
David Nelson, WR, Buffalo Bills-The Giants are 3-0 with Justin Tuck in the lineup and 0-2 without him. Nelson hasn’t done much the past few weeks, but the Giants defense made Tavaris Jackson AND Charlie Whitehurst looks like pro bowl quarterbacks as undrafted free agent Doug Baldwin ate them alive. The Giants can beat the Bills on Sunday, but the Bills are going to move the ball a lot. With Donald Jones out, David Nelson is going to see a lot of balls thrown his way as Aaron Ross will struggle against Nelson’s size.
Percy Harvin, Minnesota
The Bears pass defense has been bad this year. They are 27th in the league vs the pass and have also been bad vs the run. Knowing that the Vikings are struggling passing the ball I could see the Bears focusing on stopping the run and giving up some good passing yards. Percy Harvin is a good player who has done nothing this year. Call it a hunch, but Harvin is a good start.
Greg Little, WR, Browns
I think the Browns are going to lose on Sunday, but Little could get his first receiving touchdown of the year. The Raiders are already below average in the secondary, but they are also going to be without starter Chris Johnson, Rookie Chimdi Chewka, and the underrated pass rusher Matt Shaugnhessy. Little could be in for a “big” (what do I have to be so lame?) game.
Daniel Thomas, RB, Miami
Thomas should be back this week after getting the bye week to rest. The Jets defense is not very good up front and the Dolphins will probably look to run the ball a lot because Matt Moore is starting at quarterback and the Jets have good coverage guys. Thomas isn’t going to break a ton of big plays, but four yards and a cloud of dust is possible. If Thomas puts one in the end-zone it’s gravy.
Felix Jones, RB, Dallas
Mike Wright is unlikely to play, the Patriots give up a ton of yards and they don’t have the team speed to keep up with Jones. If he’s going to break a long run this year, this weekend might be his best chance.
Kevin Boss, TE, Oakland
Boss is completely off the injury report. The Raiders offense has thrown a lot of passes to their tight ends over the past few seasons and so far early Boss is getting some looks. Boss is their best receiving threat in the Red-zone and I have zero faith in the middle of the Browns defense where Boss roams. This could be a very nice game for Boss this weekend.
Sit
Jahvid Best, Lions
Best is not going to have a good game vs the 49ers. The 49ers haven’t allowed a 100 yard rusher in more than a season, I believe. The 49ers defense is for real. Jahvid is not the “best” (sorry, can’t help it) option this week.
Brandon Marshall, WR, Dolphins
I don’t expect him to get ejected in the second quarter like he said he might. But he will be on Revis island. Sit him.
Michael Crabtree, 49ers-
The 49ers have played well, but Alex Smith and Crabtree don’t really have much of a connection. He has 11 catches for a 132 this season.
Reggie Wayne, Colts-
The Colts are going up against one of the best defenses in the league and the Bengals aren’t very good. On top of that Curtis Painter has been looking Pierre Garcon’s way more than Reggie Wayne. If you don’t have anyone else you start Wayne, but consider other options.
Dallas Clark
Painter has not clicked with Clark yet, who is also blocking more than in years past. Leave him on the bench if you can.
Giants Defense
The Giants gave up 98 rushing to Marshawn Lynch and he’s not nearly as good as Fred Jackson. The Giants are also going to be playing without Justin Tuck (they are 3-0 with him in the lineup and 0-2 with him out) their best run stopping defensive end. The Giants also have a lot of depth issues in the secondary and Deon Grant looks old. The Bills should be able to score a lot of points on the Giants, on top of that the Giants have no return game to speak of which ruins their defensive value because there is about a 2 percent chance they will return a punt for more than 40 yards this year, let alone for a touchdown.
Now if you’re in an IDP league you can start Jason Pierre Paul and Osi Umeniyora because they are always potentials for sacks. Just check your scoring settings. In one of my leagues you get points off for giving up a lot of yardage (Giants will do that). The Giants still offer potential for sacks and create some turnovers, but the Bills have been very careful with the football this year, and I’d find better options.
