Robert Griffin is Human, Tannehill Goes Wild in Texas A and M rout of Baylor
Robert Griffin put up a valiant effort today, but he was undone by his offensive line which allowed him to be under constant pressure and sacked at three times (maybe 4). Griffin also showed that like any quarterback when the pressure is one he’s only human. Griffin still completed 28 of 40 passes (70 percent) for 430 yards at a whopping 10.8 yards per attempt, but he also threw an interception on a really bad decision. Griffin wasn’t able to get anything going when he rushed the ball 12 times for 15 yards.
Griffin still showed off his quick release and accurate arm and athletic ability that will make him a first round pick in the 2012 N.F.L. Draft. Even though he was under duress much of the game he was able to keep the Bears in the game until the fourth quarter.
For the Aggies, Tannehill put up huge numbers in large part due to the performance of junior Ryan Swope who had 11 catches for 216 yards and four touchdowns (a school single game-record), including a long 68 yard touchdown pass where he broke a tackle and beat the rest of the Bears defenders down the field.
Tannehill ended up 25 passes completed out of 37 attempts for 415 yards (11.2 yards per attempt) and 6 touchdowns to 1 interception.
Tannehill the former WR sometimes makes you forget that he didn’t start quarterbacking at A and M until halfway through last season. Tannehill also carried the rock 5 times for55 yards and showed off his immense potential. He’s not refined, but he really has a cannon and throws a pretty spiral, plus he’s very athletic for a quarterback and has size at 6’4 222 pounds. Heading into the season Tannehill had an outside chance of being a first round pick, but that talked had cooled off a bit as Robert Griffin had vaulted ahead of him on many draftnik’s boards. It will be interesting tow watch how well he plays the rest of the season and whether or not he can get himself into Day 1, or early Day 2 consideration.
Cyrus Gray the A and M Aggies running back and potential Day 2 pick had 12 carries for only 42 yards and the big bodied as he was outshone by Christine Michael who had over a 100 yards rushing and has really had a nice season (averaging 6.4 yards per carry). Michael displays good balance while running the football and pretty good vision. I’ll keep my eye on him moving forward. Potential first round pick Jeff Fuller had5 catches for 71 yards.
It’s a tough loss for Baylor who had really been enjoying a nice season.
