What If… Tim Tebow

WHAT IF…

1- Tebow completed that last pass to win the game?

He would become a god.  But, on top of that the Chargers would have been exposed as a bad team.  Their 4 wins have come against opponents with a total of 5 wins (MIN, KC, MIA & DEN).  And their point differential is the lowest of all the 4-1/5-0 teams (+11 points—the next closest is New Orleans at +32).  This is convenient for them as they usually start slow and last year’s division winner has lost their best playmaker (Jamal Charles).

2- Tebow laid an egg/had 3+ turnovers?

Could those Denver fans get a refund for their billboard?  The pressure would have been off of Kyle Orton and John Fox wouldn’t have to deal with the constant “start Tebow” requests.  However, his fans would still complain that he wasn’t given a fair chance because he didn’t have a full week to prepare in practice with the first team.  Merril Hoge would have loved breaking that down though.

3- John Fox really had Tebow’s back?

Does anyone else get the feeling Fox wants Tebow to fail?  After he declared Tebow the starter, Fox said “We’re 1-4, and we’ve got to move on.  We’re going to do whatever it takes to get out of that. Whether this works or not, time will tell.”  Time will tell?  What about concentrating on the positives and backing up Tebow as your starter with comments like “he energized our team”?  Or “he gives us the best chance to win now”?  Too bad for Fox, Tebow is going up against the 2nd to worst pass defense in Miami off their bye week this week.

4- Denver wasn’t coming into a bye week?

It helps Tebow a lot that he gets to have more reps with the first team, but I don’t know that Fox even had the option of going back to Tebow after his performance.  It is one thing for the fans to be chanting for Tebow when they think he is the third string quarterback, but when he comes in and almost brings them back against San Diego, they’d be calling for Fox’s head if he didn’t make him the starter.

5- Miami gave up that 2nd round draft pick request from Denver for Orton?

Woah, would that have been a mistake.  Brady Quinn might have still started the season for Denver.  I think the fans ultimatley pushed Fox to give Tebow a try as they were struggling against the Chargers, even if he did it hoping Tebow would fail.  For Miami, Chad Henne looks better than Orton and besides that, Miami is on the fast track for Andrew Luck.  Too bad for them they didn’t have as much common sense regarding the projected performance of Reggie Bush this season (or is that actually good for them as well?).
