Rex Brukhead Steals the Show in the Second Half in Nebraska Cornhuskers Come from Behind victory

The Cornhuskers were in a bad spot after a terribly played first half vs Ohio State, but in the fourth quarter Rex Burkhead stepped up his game and sealed the come-from-behind victory for the Nebraska Cornhuskers (the largest comeback in school history, said the sideline reporter for the game at the conclusion of the game).

Rex Burkhead was the star of the game as he rushed for 24 yards on his final six carries and finished the game with 26 carries for 117 yards and a rushing touchdown. Burkhead had 5 receptions for 59 yards and another touchdown. Burkhead isn’t a big time N.F.L. prospect and as a junior he probably won’t even declare for the N.F.L. draft, but he has been a welcomed asset for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

A player who continues to impress is LB LaVonte David. David was all over the field showcasing his sideline to sideline speed. David is an undersized linebacker (well 225 pound range might be generous), but he’s speedy, instinctive, and makes big plays. He had a huge strip,  which turned the momentum in the game for good, the momentum initially switched when Braxton Miller left the game as the Buckeyes seem to lose their offense. David is putting himself into the second or third round range for the 2012 N.F.L. draft (he’s a senior).

Alfonzo Dennard was his usual self, showcasing his first round talent. People in the know like CBS’s Rob Rang have said that many teams had Alfonzo Dennard rated higher than Prince Amukamara, the Giants first round pick (19th overall) in the 2011 N.F.L. draft. Dennard will be drafted in the first round.

The disappointment of the night was Jared Crick who wasn’t playing that well, and then ended up leaving the game late. Nebraska isn’t quite back to the “good ol’ days” but they are getting their quickly under Bo Pelini. The Cornhuskers have bought players into the first round of the N.F.L. draft two years in a row and are likely to put another one this year with Alfonzo Dennard, Jared Crick also has an outside shot to make the first round if his play goes back to the level it was the past two years.  The announcers/analysts were inferring that Crick might be fighting through an undisclosed injury.

Tonight the Cornhuskers were on display and the future looks bright once again. There is a lot of N.F.L. talent on this team and if their recuriting continues they could be the powerhouses of their new conference annually beating the likes of Ohio State .
