Miami Dolphins Currently Winning the “Suck for Luck” Race

I very much hate the phrase “Suck for Luck” because that would have to mean that some team is purposefully losing in order to draft a guy who could break his neck on the first play of the pre-season (knock on wood).

However, right now, the Miami Dolphins are winning the Andrew Luck sweepstakes, though they have some tough competition with the Vikings and Rams surprisingly both 0-4 to start the year, and the Colts still 0-3 as this is being written.

You have to think the Vikings and Rams would at least consider passing on Luck if they got the first pick, especially the Rams since both teams have invested first round picks in a quarterback.

I realize Sam Bradford has not played up to par yet this year, but should they really give up on him after one year? I doubt it.

The Vikings just drafted Christian Ponder, so it’s easy to say they will just up and take Luck without having seen Ponder play and maybe trade him to the highest bidder, but the Vikings are often a stubborn team when it comes to their draft board, though they typically take the best player available. That team has so many weaknesses, perhaps trading the pick is a wiser idea than giving up on Ponder after just one season with little playing time.

Heck, some of the fans think Joe Webb is the real deal.

That leaves some dark-horse candidates. As of right now, there are a handful of teams with 1-3 records:

Kansas City, Seattle, Denver, Carolina, Philadelphia, Jacksonville, and Arizona.

I think the Chiefs and Seahawks would gladly welcome Luck to town, and if the Broncos were in position to take him, I fear they would do so as well at this point without seeing what they’ve got in Tim Tebow.

I highly doubt Carolina, Philadelphia, Jacksonville, or Arizona would pick Luck with their current quarterback situations.

Of course, if it does wind up being Miami who gets the top selection, you can bet that bottom dollar that Luck will be taking his talents to South Beach.
