Former Giants 3rd round pick (and LSU Tiger), Chad Jones, to Run Official 40 yard dash
Those New York Giants sure do have a knack for being part of feel good stories. Earlier this year the New York Giants signed undrafted free agent linebacker Mark Herzlich who is only a couple years removed from having bone cancer. Now, Giants former 3rd round pick, safety Chad Jones who was nearly paralyzed after a bad car accident will run an official 40 yard dash on his 23rd birthday (this Wednesday).
“It’s more about me just getting out there and showing the world that there is progress, the impossible can happen. Because at first, it was impossible for me to walk. That’s what doctors said.
“Now I’m running and getting close to back to my full potential. And it’s a mental thing for me, also, to get back in front of a crowd again, on the field, running. Hopefully, things will turn out pretty good.”
Jones says he plans on returning to the New York Giants, and because the Giants have injured/wavied IR Jones the last two years, I believe they retain his rights. What is also amazing is that Jones Flex and conditioning coach, Carter Stamm has said that Jones currently has 10 yard split times that are better than those he posted at the combine.
Jones said,
“There’s been a big jump in my rehab. I definitely see that coming to training camp (in 2012), I should be a part of the Giants.”
If Jones could make it back to training camp that would be impressive, if he could actually make the 2012 opening day roster it would be miraculous. But I’m’ sure rooting for him.
