Live From Denver on Sunday: Can Cam Newton Repeat Against Packers?
It’s NFL Sunday, and I finally have internet connection.
I have quite a few college notes I want to share with you all this week, but I’ve been unable to get somewhere with internet for a long enough period of time.
I am in Denver right now, getting set to enjoy a nice lunch before I go to Sports Authority Field at Mile High to watch the Broncos take on the Bengals, the game I figured we had the best chance of winning while the weather was still great (and it’s perfect here).
One thing I am watching for the early games is Carolina quarterback Cam Newton, who really impressed in Carolina’s week one loss to the Arizona Cardinals. For his first home game, he has the tough task of beating the reigning Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers, something no one really thinks is going to happen but the Packers are not invincible and Newton is the type of player that could give them fits.
Obviously Green Bay is the more talented team from top to bottom, so it’s natural to pick them to win, but how about a little upset on Sunday? If Newton plays like he did last week, I could definitely see it. They were a special teams miss away from possibly taking that game over.
For the Broncos, I am intrigued to see how Eric Decker can step up if Brandon Lloyd cannot play today. Decker had one of his best games as a pro last Monday night, and he had a 90 yard punt return touchdown. He is a playmaker, and if the Broncos are short-handed, I think he is Orton’s second favorite target in the passing game.
I’ll update with pictures and more fun stuff after the game!
