NFL News and Notes: Fantasy Football Injury Roundup
The biggest one: Arian Foster is a game time decision for the Colts in week 1. That’s a rough break for Arian Fsoter owners. Even when Peyton Manning is playing the Colts run defense is still average to below average routinely, especially in terms of giving up yardage. Foster could have been in store for a big game this weekend. Will he play? It’s possible, do you roll the dice on him and hope he plays? Hopefully the official word comes in a little earlier.
Sidney Rice and Robert Gallery are doubtful for week one. That could effect the run game, and obviously the passing game. I think people expect a drop for Sidney Rice anyway this year, lingering injury issues won’t help.
Marques Colston is out around 4 weeks.
New York Giants TE Travis Beckum is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Redskins. Hopefully Beckum is not your number one tight end, anyway. Ths former 3rd round pick has yet to prove an ability to stay healthy. He can catch the ball and might be a good option for the Giants at some point, but this weekend doesn’t seem to be the one. Beckum slipped to number two on the depth chart during preseason anyway behind 2012 undrafted free agent Jake Ballard. It’ll be interesting to see how Ballard does in his first extended action. He was very impressive, at times, during preseason.
Kevin Boss of the Oakland Raiders is not likely to play on Monday vs the Broncos. Also, Louis Murphy will not play on Monday either. Jackson already declared Murphy out for the Denver Broncos game Monday night. Now, it appears as if he will be joined by Boss and Mitchell, given they haven’t practiced for more than two weeks — Murphy has missed even more time than Boss. the player to watch for the Raiders here continues to be preseason sensation and fifth round pick, Denarius Moore. Taiwan Jones appeared on the injury report, but seems likely to play.
49ers Michael Crabtree is a go for Sunday. But are any 49ers recievers worth owning this year?
The Chicago Bears likely Goal Line and short yardage back, Mario Barber has been ruled out for Sunday. I don’t think Barber will have a huge season, but I’m banking on a pretty decent one and can concieve of 7 to 9 touchdowns. He should be a viable running back to start when one of your top running backs has a game off. Good thing then for fantasy players that they should have other options this week as there are no byes.
If you own Big Ben (I do! I do!) you might be in for a pleasant surprise this weekend. The Baltimore Ravens are going to start Jimmy Smith and Cary Williams. I’m a big fan on the talent of Jimmy Smith (he spent much of our predraft coverage in our top 10 for player rankings), but a rookie’s first N.FL. game going up against a top quarterback like Big Ben. Smith could concievably look lost for a play or two this weekend which could help Big Ben put up some pretty decent numbers.
Rookie Running back Daniel Thomas, of the Miami Dolphins was limited in pratice and might not play this weekend.
