2012 Vizio Rose Bowl Breakdown

Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck wins the 2011 Heisman Trophy, but gets robbed of a BCS National Title appearance.  Everyone writes off Nebraska because Prince Amukamara is gone and because Alfonzo Dennard is expected to miss some time with an injury.  Dennard returns to full form when the Rose Bowl approaches allowing Nebraksa’s secondary to gel.

Nebraska Head Coach Bo Pelini and his older brother Carl Pelini assemble a defensive gameplan with their Nebraska defense to throw Andrew Luck off his game.

Nebraska’s offense gets a lot of early momentum and the Cornhusker pass defense manages to throw Andrew Luck off his game.  Despite Luck having a bad game Stanford’s running game with the run blocking of their offensive lineman and the running backs allows them to score points to remain in the football game.

Nebraska leads 17 to 7 after 1 quarter and they go for it on 4th down and goal and convert both times. Nebraksa then leads 24 to 16 at halftime.  Stanford starts to strike momentum in the 3rd quarter and the Cornhuskers manage to lead 27 to 23 heading into the 4th quarter despite the fact that the Cardinal begin to gain momentum of this football game.

Nebraksa holds Stanford to a field goal to begin the 4th quarter as Nebraska only leads by 1 point. Nebraska then goes 3 and out and Stanford gets a chance to regain the lead.  Andrew Luck has yet to throw a touchdown and throws his 3rd pick of the day which turns out to be a pick 6.  Stanford’s coaching staff is tempted to bench Andrew Luck and throw backup Brett Nottingham into the game near the end of the 4th quarter since Luck is performing so poorly, but  Luck convinces the coaches to give him one more chance around the 2 minute warning.

Andrew Luck fires a touchdown in a clutch situation after the Nebraska secondary kept him in check for 58 minutes.  Then Andrew Luck fires a 2 point conversion to Colby Fleener and Stanford ties the game.

Both teams are held to a 3 and out by the opposing defense when given a chance to win the game.  Nebraksa gets one more chance to drive the football downfield with little time remaining and they put themselves in field goal position.  Both teams have 1 timeout left as the clock is ticking with less than 10 seconds left.  Nebraska calls a timeout at the 5 second mark and Stanford calls their timeout to ice the kicker.

Nebraska converts the field goal with 1 second leading 37 to 34 and Stanford will have to return a kick to win.  Nebraska pulls the upset and Andrew Luck reminses on what could have happened had he performed better.

Prediction Nebraska 37 Stanford 34

2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Breakdown

Everyone will expect South Carolina to school Virginia Tech the same exact way Florida schooled Ohio State in the 2007 BCS National Title Game.  South Carolina will strike early, but Virginia Tech will keep South Carolina’s offense from dropping 40 points.  South Carolina’s quarterback will use the passing attack to open up the playbook for wide receiver Alshon Jeffery who will be covered well by Jayron Hosley.  Hosley will use his man coverage to shut down Jeffery.

South Carolina will run with Marcus Lattimore and throw to their other receiving targets to get Jeffery involved in this game.

Virginia Tech’s offense will get 1 passing touchdown where Logan Thomas connects with Jarret Boykin and this Hokie offense will struggle against South Carolina’s defense.

Prediction South Carolina 27 Virginia Tech 13

2012 Discover Orange Bowl

Both Florida State and West Virginia both have dual threat quarterbacks.  Florida State has EJ Manuel and West Virginia has Geno Smith.  I expect both quarterbacks to struggle with throwing interceptions at the same time I think both quarterbacks will get over 300 combined yards with their dual threat ability.  I believe Geno Smith outplays EJ Manuel and makes that one big play in the clutch to put West Virginia over the top.

Prediction West Virginia 23 Florida State 16

2012 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

Oregon gains an early 17 to 0 lead over Texas A&M.  Coryell Judie makes a pick 6 in the first quarter to put A&M back in the game.  Oregon gets a field goal in the 2nd quarter to make it 20 to 7 at halftime.  Darron Thomas gets injured on the final play of the 3rd quarter with the score still 20 to 7 with one quarter left.  Oregon’s backup comes in for the duration of the game and throws a pick 6 to start the fourth quarter.

Texas A&M wide receiver Jeff Fuller catches a game winning touchdown with no time left and the Aggies win 21 to 20 over the Oregon Ducks.

Prediction Texas A&M 21 Oregon 20

2012 BCS National Title Game

Both teams score a touchdown in the first quarter.  Then the game is tied at 21 at halftime as Landry Jones fires a touchdown to Ryan Broyles and Kenny Stillis in the first half.  No one scores in the 3rd quarter.  Midway through 4th quarter Trent Richardson has a game changing run that allows Alabama to gain a 28 to 21 lead.  No one scores until Landry Jones fires a pick 6 to Dre Kirkpatrick with less than 2 minutes to go.

Prediction Alabama 35 Oklahoma 21
