2011 NFL Supplemental Draft Set to Take Place Monday

The NFL’s supplemental draft will take place on Monday at 1 PM ET, and the obvious big name out there right now is former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, my fourth ranked quarterback for the class of 2011.

Pryor is certainly going to need a lot of development as a quarterback, which is why some of those out there who are impatient are just saying he should switch to wide receiver or tight end right away, something I seriously disagree with. Pryor is a guy who you want the ball in his hands at all times. He is a playmaker and despite his problems with inaccuracy at Ohio State, I think he made great strides in that regard from his sophomore to junior season, and if you have good coaching, there’s no reason to think he can’t be a good long term investment at the quarterback position.

In addition to Pryor, players available for this year’s supplemental draft are North Carolina defensive end/outside linebacker Michael McAdoo, Georgia running back Caleb King, Western Carolina defensive back Torez Jones, Lindenwood defensive lineman Keenan Mace, and Northern Illinois safety Tracy Wilson.

I would expect Pryor, McAdoo, and King to get looks from NFL teams as actual draft picks, but wouldn’t bet on any besides Pryor, who has a ton of ability and is the former top high school prospect in the entire country. King has shown flashes of ability at Georgia, and McAdoo has intriguing size and athleticism, but he needs to add more weight to his frame.

Teams that I would watch out for to draft Pryor: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Oakland, Miami, Washington, Indianapolis, and Seattle among some others. There is always a dark horse. I have said that I think Pryor will be a 3rd-5th round pick, and I could certainly see someone spending that high of a pick on him for fear that a team higher in the draft order would place a claim in, say, the fourth round.

We will have updates as soon as Pryor is selected (or not) as well as what the outcome is for the other athletes available.
