2011 Fantasy Football Sleeper Picks

facebooktwitterreddit

After almost all teams have played two preseason games we are starting to get a feel on how things will shake out this year. There have been some injuries, and some surprise players that have looked better than most would have predicted. I have put out  sleeper lists already for this year, but you can never have enough sleepers to pick from.

Reggie Bush. WOW, Bush looked great in the 2nd preseason game. Totaling 81 yards. He showed some burst, and the ability to actually break a tackle. It’s really clear though that Thomas will be the goal line back, but how many chances do you think Miami will get at the goal line with Henne at QB?? This is going to be a time share with Thomas, with Bush getting a 60/40 split to start the season. I think Bush will be good for 12-18 touches a game. That makes him a great Flex option, and maybe even a RB2 in deeper leagues.

Tim Hightower. I hope you guys are paying attention because Tim might end up a number 2RB this year. First off Ryan Torain is still hurt, 2nd, Tim can be used as a three down back, and with a stat line….6 carries 70 yards and a td…..what’s not to like? Tim has shown great vision (so far) and the ability to break tackles.  Please don’t drop the ball and miss out on Hightower. Torain has lost this job.

Matthew Stafford. If Stafford stays healthy he will be a TOP 10 QB this year. I will repeat that one more time. Stafford will be a TOP 10 QB this year! Stafford has looked outstanding thus far. The Lions don’t run the ball that much, and are a pass heavy team. He has made all the right reads, and it looks like Nate Burleson is healthy. It might be a good idea to wait on a QB and take Stafford in the 8th round or so. If he stays healthy look for 4,000 yards and over 30 td’s.

Chris Wells.  This pick is more about opportunity than it is about talent. Another rookie RB goes down (Ryan Williams)  for the year. It’s now or never for Wells as he will be the main guy, or at least the last man standing. (However you would like to put it). Wells looked ok, running with power and a stat line of 11 carries for 44 yards in his second preseason game. He should find more running room this year with Kolb at QB because teams won’t be able to stack the box as much. Wells could end up a number 2RB this year, but I like him more as a flex or 3RB. Wells needs to show he can stay healthy. Still, he’s worth a pick after the 6th or 7th round.

Greg Olsen. The TE field is very deep. NLF Mocks had it’s draft last Tuesday and I got what I think will be a top 10 TE in the 12th round. Olsen has a lot of talent, and now that he’s out of Chicago will have a chance to shine. Also, Greg is working with Gates’ old TE coach. I see big things in store for Greg Olsen this year. At 6’5, he’s an outstanding end zone target and could end up the leading receiver on the Panthers for yards and td’s.

Mike Thomas. Well, he’s all they got. I like Mike Thomas better than most. David Garrard really looked his way a lot in the second preseason game. Missing on what would have been over a 50 yard+ td pass. Thomas was open, but David over threw him by a lot and it was picked off. Thomas will be targeted a lot and should post WR three numbers for your team. It’s not unreasonable to think Thomas could post 1,000 yards with 5-8 td’s possible.

Thanks for the Time,
