Denver Broncos vs Buffalo Bills Preseason Game: Young Player Impressions

facebooktwitterreddit

I had a long day at my 9-5 today (I got home after 8 oclock) so I didn’t see the first 8 or so game minutes of the Broncos vs the Bills, but I have been watching since then and here’s some of the things I’ve seen.

I love the Bills new uniforms on T.V. I wasn’t convinced with them just from the pictures, but they look sharp on T.V. good work, Buffalo.

I’ll keep updating this through the game

For Bills analysis about all players and not just the young players swing over to Buffalodown and see what they are seeing

Buffalo Bills

I mentioned this last week when I was watching the other Bills preseason game vs the Bears. The young defensive line is one of the most promising lines in all of football.  With Kyle Williams being the star of this line the young guys are filling in quite nicely. They still have some work to go, but in two years when we’re talking about the best lines in the N.F.L., Buffalo could top that list.

Marcell Dareus

He’s just a monster. He’s a load in the runs game and has at least one pressure in from the time I’ve started watching the game and perhaps more. Blocking him one on one will be a chore for offensive linemen this year, and perhpas impossible.  He also has a sack in this game. Dareus looks Bust proof, and for the Bills that’s a huge plus because the last 10 years are filled up and down with draft busts.

Torrel Troup

He’s another monster in the middle. He’s been playing mostly nose tackle tonight though he has one of his hands wrapped in a cast.

From our friends at buffalowdown.com

Third Quarter 4:49 – Another positive tonight: Torell Troup. On first down, he broke past the center and forced Quinn to throw the ball away. On second down, he dominated the line of scrimmage and the running back had nowhere to go.

Alex Carrington

The last of the young Bills defensive linemen. He’s listed at 6’5 304 pounds.  He hasn’t really made an impact yet from what I’ve seen.

C.J. Spiller

Of couse he always looks explosive. He’s very quick and fast. he hasn’t had any huge plays yet today, but he did have a 14 yard run. However, he has 3 more carries that only totaled five yards. He still needs work in his pass protection as he allows a blizer to come clean and sack Fitzpatrick.

Marcus Easley

Tips a catchable pass into the air and it’s intercepted by the Denver Broncos.

Arthur Moats

Moats came on very strong at the end of last year, but reports out of camp have him playin ga different position than pass rusher like he was last year. I’ll be looking to see what kind of role he plays while he’s in he game.

Danny Batten

Put a nice pressure on Quinn  before slamming him into the ground.

Da’Norris Searcy

Searcy was a player most draftniks didn’t even think would get drafted, but he did by the Bills in large part because of his ability to play vs the run, an area the Bills were determined to improve this off-season. Has a nice play in run support. It also looks like the Bills could use him as the punt return man, perhaps in an effort to save C.J. Spiller from some hits, though I imagine Spiller will get some return opportunities.

Bruce Hall

Bruce Hall ou tof Mississippi is running hard and picking up some nice yardage with 5 carries for 40 yards. He’s getting carries now that White left with an injury.

Denver Broncos

Knowshown Moreno

Moreno is having quite a game tonight. He is averaging 5 yards a carry and has 2 catches for 21 yards. The Broncos running back position (and Moreno specifically) has been questioned all off-season (they were connected to many free agent running backs), but tonight Moreno looks like he has a fire lit under him and he’s responding.

Von Miller

Both Dareus and Miller are showing why they were top three draft picks this year. On one play he just absolutely blew by LT Demetrius Bell to sack Ryan Fitzpatrick. It looked like one of his college highlight plays where he was barely even touched by the offensive linemen. His first step is DeMarcus Ware esque. He also has 2 tackles and an assist.  He had another sack taken back because he was whistled for an offsides penalty.

Rahim Moore

He led with his helmet (flagged for it) to lay a punishing hit on a Bills wide receiver (Donald Jones). I haven’t been watching closely enough because I’ve been focusing on Von Miller, but the Bills are strugging to get big pass plays which is usually a good indication that the safeties are playing well.

Eric Decker

The former Minnesota Gophers player has 3 catches for 39 yards as he looks to be more involved in the Broncos offense this season.

Tim Tebow

Brady Quinn had his way with the Bills defense for most of the night so Tebow needs to have a good showing.

From profootballtalk.com

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that, since the preseason opener, Quinn has been taking as many second-team reps as Tebow.  Lately, Quinn has been taking second-team reps before Tebow.  At a walk-through in advance of Saturday night’s game, Orton ran the “first-half” offense and Quinn led the “second-half offense

With the game firmly in the Broncos grasp it seems Tebow might just do a lot of handing off for the rest of the night.

Well as soon as I say that Tebow runs a boot leg and slides inbounds to keep the clock running.
