Monday Night Football Brings Out the Star in Houston Texans Rookie OLB Bryan Braman
The Houston Texans are making the big switch to a 3-4 defense, and with that, you have to start finding some guys who can rush the quarterback, and at least during last night’s Monday Night performance, rookie outside linebacker Bryan Braman showed he could really do some damage from the outside.
Braman finished the game with six tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and three hits on the quarterback. He was all over Greg McElroy on the final couple of drives at the end of the game, and he simply looked un-blockable out there.
What’s that? You’ve never heard of Bryan Braman?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Braman is a rookie out of West Texas A&M, and he stands at 6’5″ 241 pounds. He showed at his pro day some solid athleticism, but legal problems and bad decisions really hurt him in college. He found himself kicked out of West Texas A&M last year for manufacturing psilocybin, a hallucinogen found in mushrooms.
Houston Texans defensive assistant Bobby King was a coach with WTAMU, and according to this article, he played a big role in getting Braman to Houston.
“I think Coach King has been a key for me. He kind of kept me on the board and knew that I was a good guy,” Braman said. “I really want to make something happen, work hard and take advantage of this opportunity.”
Braman is certainly off to a good start to his NFL career. If he can keep this pace, I see no reason why he won’t be on the Texans’ final 53 man roster.
