Running Back Vick Ballard replaced Anthony Dixon a year ago. Now Ballard is the leader of the Mississippi State ground game.
Offensive Outlook: Mississippi State is led by quarterback Chris Relf. Relf is a dual threat quarterback that will be a part of Mississippi State’s offense. Mississippi State may have lost left tackle Derrick Sherrod, but they have one of the best run blocking offensive lines in the country. Left Tackle James Carmon and right tackle Addison Lawrence anchor the run blocking offensive line.
Mississippi State has a pretty good interior offensive line with left guard Gabe Jackson and center Quentin Saulsberry.
Defensive Outlook: Mississippi State lost pass rushing defensive end Pernell Mcphee on the defensive line. Now Mississippi State will be led by their defensive tackles Josh Boyd and Fletcher Cox.
The last two seasons linebacker play has been a strength for Mississippi State. Now the linebacker play is the teams main weakness after losing KJ Wright, Chris White, and Jamar Cheney during the last 2 seasons.
Mississippi State’s strong suit on defense has to be a deadly secondary led by strong safety Charles Mitchell. Cornerbacks Jonathan Banks and Corey Broomfield excel in coverage.
