Michael Floyd Reinstated to Notre Dame Football Program
Michael Floyd didn’t have to miss any games, or even any real practices after being indefinitely suspended earlier this year, leaving some to think that part of his season might be in question. According to reports, Floyd is back with the football team, and just in time for training camp to start. Floyd committed his third alcohol related offense since coming to Notre Dame in March, and coach Brian Kelly said he would not be reinstated until he saw a change in Floyd’s behavior.
“Over the last four months, Michael impressed those who had close contact with him including professional advisers,” Kelly said in a official statement. “Based on my own observations, I am very pleased with the progress Michael has made since March. That is why I am comfortable reinstating him to our football team.”
Floyd also released a statement on the last five months:
“The last four months have been the most humbling stretch of time in my life,” Floyd said. “I embarrassed myself, my family, the university, my football team and many more people. I know it will take time to earn the trust and confidence from everyone I let down last spring but I am prepared to do so and will strive to become not just a leader on the team again, but one also in the community.”
Hopefully this can be a renewed start for Floyd, who is considered one of the top wide receiver prospects available in the 2012 NFL Draft. Floyd has apparently changed himself enough to the point that he wasn’t really given any kind of harsh punishment for his actions. If he were already in the NFL and this were his third offense, he would have probably been suspended for half a season.
