Houston Texans Release Amobi Okoye
By Editorial Staff
Yesterday the Houston Texans I picked the Texans to make the Super Bowl in my season preview. Today the Texans decided to release nose tackle Amobi Okoye a 4-3 defensive tackle who would have made the switch to nose tackle for the Texans this season? My only question is why didn’t the Texans draft a nose tackle if they knew they were going to sign Jonathan Joseph and release Amobi Okoye?
Looking back on the draft the Rashad Carmichael pick looks kind of foolish because while the Texans have 4 corners they have no nose tackle and if DeMeco Ryans gets injured again then teams will be able to run on Houston’s defense with relative ease. Now it is even more crucial for Houston’s 3-4 middle linebackers DeMeco Ryans and Brian Cushing to stay healthy.
If neither 3-4 middle linebacker stays healthy, I will hear the same old material week in and week out on Sunday Night’s Sportscenter. I’ll hear Tom Jackson praising teams for running the football on Houston while regretting his prediction of the Texans making the AFC Championship game that Tom Jackson made back on day 1 of the 2011 NFL Draft.
I’m still going to pledge my allegiance to the Houston Texans making Super Bowl 46. Watching the Texans release Amobi Okoye does lower their chances of making Super Bowl 46 to a significant degree because nose tackle is one of the more important positions for the 3-4 scheme after the 3-4 outside linebacker position.
Is the release of Okoye going to keep the Texans from making the Super Bowl? Should I flip flop and pick New England or Baltimore to make Super Bowl 46 now in the wake of this release and have them losing to the Atlanta Falcons? Should I stick with the Texans as my Super Bowl pick despite the fact that their depleted at nose tackle for the 3-4 scheme. Let me know what you think by sharing your opinion in the comments section.
