Update On Recent Free Agent Signings

With Free Agency set to officially start in a couple hours, there have been a plethora of signings over the last 24 hours. So here is an update on all of the players that have agreed to deals with teams.

Marcus Spears has agreed to a 5 year deal with the Dallas Cowboys. The deal is reportedly worth $19.2 million. This is a nice move by the Cowboys who are hurting for Defensive Line depth. Spears is a nice run stopper and his return was much needed. The Cowboys were reportedly in the mix for Cullen Jenkins. I don’t know if this deal affects a potential Jenkins deal, but if the Cowboys sign Nnamdi Asamougha then they will definitely be out of the running.

Ray Edwards has agreed to a 5 year, 30 million dollar deal with the Atlanta Falcons. The Edwards signing is pretty significant. Atlanta needed another pass rusher opposite of Johnathan Abraham and they get a good one in Ray Edwards at a pretty good price. Just a small note, Ray Edwards gets a 30 million dollar deal, but Charles Johnson gets a 76 million dollar deal? Huh?

Matt Moore has agreed to a 2 year deal with the Miami Dolphins. This is a big news signing because this kills the recent trade talks of Orton to Miami, in theory. However, I’m not 100% sure the deal is dead. Moore’s contract is reportedly worth 5 million dollars which is not a starter quarterback’s salary at all. It’s possible the Dolphins let Chad Henne and Matt Moore battle it out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Orton still ends up in Miami.

Stewart Bradley has agreed to a 4 year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. NFL insider Jason La Canfora is reporting that there are some things left to hash out in the contract but that Bradley will be a Cardinal when free agency opens. Contract details are not known, but the Cardinals definitely need some upgrading in their linebacker corps. Depending on the contract size, it’s a nice move.

Harvey Gahl has agreed to a 4 year deal with the St. Louis Rams. Contract details are not known, but this is a nice move. The Rams need to take every step necessary to protect franchise quarterback Sam Bradford. Harvey was the starting guard for the Falcons, but he will now be a starting guard for the St Louis Rams. Rams have to be considered a favorite for the NFC West.

Dawan Landry has agreed to a 5 year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars wanted to pry stud safety Eric Weddle from the San Diego Chargers, but were unable to do so. Landry fills a big need at safety for the Jags who are trying to stay competitive in the AFC South.
