Atlanta Falcons Release Former 1st Round pick Jamaal Anderson: Steelers Continue to Cut Offensive Linemen
The N.F.L. is a fickle business and Jamaal Anderson found that out this week when he was released by the Atlanta Falcons. Also released by the Atlanta Falcons was wide receiver Michael Jenkins.
Anderson had every chance to succeed with the Falcons who started him in 44 consecutive games from his rookie year until last year, but wasn’t able to flash enough ability to warrant a roster spot this year. Anderson only has 4.5 career sacks in 47 games started and 60 games played. The physically gifted Anderson will likely latch on to another team because he has good physical ability. But the former Arkansas star is going to be labeled a bust until he can prove otherwise.
The Falcons also released another former first round pick when they let go of WR Michael Jenkins. A move that is a little more surprising to me. Jenkins never lived up to his potential, but had an all right career with the Falcons. With at least 500 yards receiving each of the last four years, while that’s not going to set the world on fire. He might have been able to find a niche as a #3 WR with Roddy White and Jones commanding a lot of attention. Jenkins started 18 games the last two years for the Falcons and had the most receiving yards in the playoffs this year actually.
The Steelers, like the Giants, continued to revamp their offensive line. They have released Max Starks and now Ed Bouchette tweets that the Steelers have released Flozell Adams who refused to take a pay cut to be a backup to the Steelers this year.
There are sure to be more big releases over the next couple of days and big free agent signings. And I for one an excited for the frenze that’s sure to come tonight.
