NFL Free Agency News: Justin Tuck Uses Twitter To Announce Giants Bringing Back Mathias Kiwanuka, Texans and Asmougha, and 49ers to Cut Clements
Twitter is the new age “extra, extra read all about it newspapers” you often find cliche orphan kids selling in movies, and today an athlete once again used Twitter to break news. Justin Tuck tweets that “Kiwi is returning to the big blue. Yes sir,”. This is good news for Giants and Giants fans who have seen two veteran defensive linemen depart already this year (Rocky Bernard was cut, Barry Coefield signed with the Redskins) and also have one holding out (Osi Umeinyora will reportedly hold out).
Kiwanuka looked to be a breakout player last year in Perry Fewell’s system before suffering a season ending knee injury in the first half of the N.F.L. Season. Kiwanuka return ensures the Giants have at least three quality defensive ends next year with Kiwanuka, Tuck, and talented second year player Jason Pierre Paul. If the Giants and Umeinyora work their situation out, it’s also possible that Kiwanuka will be used some at the SAM linebacker position.
In other news the Houston Texans are in the lead for Nnamdi Asmougha according to Michael Lombardi of the N.F.L. Network.
While the Jets are enticed by trotting out two studs at cornerback, arguably no team needs Asmougha’s veteran presence and overall ability than the young Texans. The Texans have started a serious overhaul for their defense and Asmougha could be one of the final pieces in a successful transformation of their defense.

Lastly, the 49ers will cut Nate Clements. Via Profootballtalk. “According to multiple reports, the 49ers and Clements were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract, and as a result the team has informed Clements that he’ll be cut.” Clements had a decent career with the 49ers, but never truly lived up to his big contract. The 49ers have now lost two of their most veteran defensive players this off-season as well as lost starting G/C David Baas to the New York Giants. The 49ers also have to deal with a Frank Gore holdout. So far, things are not breaking well for the 49ers.
