The Kansas City Chiefs Ensure a Competent WR Corps With Steve Breaston Signing
Last year, playing in a pass first league, the Kansas City Chiefs managed to take the league and A.F.C. West by storm compiling enough wins to beat out the San Diego Chargers for the A.F.C. West playoff bid, despite having what was widely considered one of the worst overall wide receiver groups in the league.
The Chiefs brain trust decided to make WR a priority entering this off-season and boy have they sure addressed that problem. It started when the Chiefs surprised (and pleased) many fans when they drafted the talented Jon Baldwin out of Pittsburgh in the first round of the draft. Today, they agumented that with the addition of the dangerous punt return man and viable #3 WR Steve Breaston. A season ago a team that only had one player with more than 50 catches, more than 3 touchdowns receiving, or more than 600 yards (All Bowe), has some serious weapons on offense now.
Baldwin will likely take time to adjust to the N.F.L, but Breaston has had some success in the N.F.L. Last season playing with atrocious quarterback play, Breaston snagged 47 receptions for 718 yards (over 15 yards per reception) in only 13 games played. The addition of Breaston and the expected growth of Dexter McCluster give the Chiefs four weapons that could play WR this season. Brace an improved WR corps with an excellent rushing attack and the Chiefs offense looks like it could be exciting for the 2011 N.F.L. season.
