Kyle Orton likely to be Traded; Dolphins Could be Biggest Pursuer

The Denver Broncos will place Kyle Orton on the trading block according to Mike Kilis of the Denver Post.

To begin the business of Day One of the NFL’s 2011 season, the Broncos will place quarterback Kyle Orton on the trading block.

Welcome, coach John Fox, to the never-dull, always-changing world of Broncos football.

With the NFL trading period opening at 8 a.m. today, Orton’s days as the Broncos’ starting QB may be down to hours. The Broncos will be entertaining offers for Orton, according to two NFL sources.

I can see this from both points of view. The first one is that the Tim Tebow entered the league as a quarterback many believes would need a few years of seasoning before he was ready to start and that keeping a consummate pro around like Kyle Orton could do wonders for Tebow’s development. The Broncos aren’t really expected to compete immediately (not saying they can’t) so they don’t need to rush Tebow into the starting role.

On the flip side Orton, has always been considered a Quarterback who can take care over a game, but can’t put up numbers. Last year Orton had by far his best statistical season and the team could be looking to strike the iron while it’s hot. Orton’s value may never be higher than it will be this offseason.

Relating to Orton,

“The first Dolphins call [Tuesday] will be to Denver to survey the cost for Orton,” according to Dave Hyde of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

It is no secret that the Dolphins are unhappy with Chad Henne. And Orton could be the answer to him, the quarterbacks could be polar opposites (the gun shy, strong armed Henne and the “weak arm” game dink and dunk type is Orton).

The Dolphins also have some talent on offense and could be a nice landing spot for Orton.

We’ll see what comes of this and it could happen fast.
