Football in LA is no longer a question of if, but when…and who.

With the new CBA just hours old, many of us here in Southern California are more excited than ever about the prospects of the NFL returning to the place they once called home for over 50 years before leaving for greener pastures. But now, the time has never been so right for the return of “America’s Game” to the land of lipstick, glamour, red carpet and TMZ.

The coming weeks will definitely do a lot for clearing up the issues related to AEG’s bid to move forward with their proposed site in downtown. They gave the Loa Angeles city council until July 31st to approve a tax free plan which would clear the way for the first shovels to hit the ground. With the approval for construction expected to be made right after the July 31st deadline, the question can now turn in to when, instead of if, a team will move to Los Angeles. The only other questions remaining would be who and if it will be two teams instead of just one.

But is it that easy? If you build it they will come? I mean, this isn’t an Iowa corn field were talking about, we’re talking about demolishing a quarter if not half of the existing convention center as well as the infratrstcture related to traffic in order to make this long awaited dream a reality. And who will make the decision to come before the 2012 season is over with? Why would any team play want to play as a lame duck all year before they move? It would be surprising to me that in today’s digital world that the secret of who will agree to move to LA will be kept until seasons end, which is why I have a sneaking suspicion that we’ll here more about this in the coming weeks with the possibility that a team may re-locate this season, yes this season, rather than wait until next year.

Impossible? I wouldn’t rule it out. What do you think?
