Report: Philadelphia Eagles Interested in Brett Favre

How about one more round, Brett?

With the Philadelphia Eagles almost certain to trade Kevin Kolb when the NFL league year begins, they will most certainly be in the market for an upgrade at the quarterback position to back up Pro Bowler Mike Vick, so why not just replace the name “Kolb” on the back of the number four jersey to say “Favre”?

Howard Eskin of WIP radio in Philadelphia tweeted that the Eagles could have interest in Favre when they trade Kolb (note, he said “when”) but the sticking point obviously becomes whether or not Favre is interested.

With the NFL lockout reaching 131 days on Sunday, it’s astonishing to me that a rumor involving Brett Favre returning to the NFL is not in the least bit annoying. In fact, it actually really excites me. I would rather talk about Favre sitting on the bench behind Mike Vick than legal issues for one more second.

Favre’s Packers were beaten by Vick’s Falcons a few years back in the playoffs, and Favre knows Andy Reid from their brief time together in Green Bay back in the day. Favre knows the West Coast offense well enough to coach it, so it’s not like it would be hard for him to grasp the Eagles’ offense.

It’s not like Brett will have to worry about training camp–the Minnesota Vikings basically let him simply show up for a couple of pre-season games last year (that didn’t work out so well). Still, to me it seems unlikely that Favre would make a return to the NFL, and it seems even more impractical that he would go to the Eagles unless he were really desperate to get on an NFL roster and just sit as an expensive insurance policy.

In the end, any story involving Favre is fun to talk about, and we have yet to really know an NFL without the guy, at least over the last two decades, so is it really over for Favre? We will likely know soon enough.
