Really Brett…Really?

There has been LOTS of speculation this off-season as to where Philadelphia Eagle’s back up quarterback Kevin Kolb would land once a new CBA was ratified. The speculation was focused on trading Kolb to the Arizona Cardinal’s for future draft picks. But there has been no speculation as to who will take Kolb’s place in the Philadelphia depth chart, until now that is.
Mike Florio, of ProFootballTalk.com, among others are reporting that the leading candidate that the Philadelphia Eagle’s are interested could be none other than Brett Lorenzo Favre. Makes some sense as Favre played under Andy Reed while the two were in Green Bay, but that is where the speculation should end.
The thought of Favre running his number four out there one more time really makes me quite ill. To know that a player can decide to retire, un-retire, retire, and unretire all over again, year after year really leaves us football fans with a bitter taste in our mouths. While there are many who support the notion of Favre strapping it back on one more time, let’s consider the following. If you consider that most if not all of football participates in OTA’s, training camp, preseason, etc while someone like Favre can waltz in as the bell rings for a new season without any of the same preparation that others dedicate themselves to is quite disturbing. Do we really need another off-season, however abbreviated it may be now, of the melodrama that is “Favre”?
I vote no, and I hope Jeffrey Lurie et al does as well.
