NFL News and Rumors: In the End Kyle Orton Could Be Released? A Dolphins/Giants RB Swap Via Free Agency?

Much of the debate about the Bronocs QB situation has been whether or not the team would trade Kyle Orton. Well Friday Jeff Legworld of the Denver Post laid out a scenario in which the Broncos would just let Orton go, if Tebow could show that he’s the right starter for the 2011 NFL season.

If the Broncos don’t deal Orton as camps open and he continues to work at Dove Valley as the anointed starter trying to hold off the wildly popular Tebow, the next-best chance for the Broncos to deal him would be if a playoff hopeful suffered a significant injury at quarterback and wanted to make a deal to try to keep its playoff window open.

So, in the end, with several teams expected to have some difficulty dealing with any new salary cap rules, the Broncos may not have the kind of demand for Orton’s services that they would need to make a deal.

The Broncos may also have to convince people they would keep Orton and Tebow on the roster together to get any trade value. Most general managers think if Tebow was named the starter, the Broncos wouldn’t keep the disgruntled Orton as the backup and would have to simply release him.

Few teams are going to dangle much in a potential trade if they think the player will hit the open market anyway.

That seems like a longshot right now, but if it does happen remember Jeff Legworld of the Denver Post was the first to bring it up, that I’ve seen. My bet is that Kyle Orton is the Broncos starter for this entire season and the team continues to mold and develop Tim Tebow. In an era of instant gratification fans don’t want to wait to see results, but if Tebow had the luxury to sit two whole years and learn the game before being handed the starting reigns, it might not be such a bad thing.

Ahmad Bradshaw may not just being blowing smoke about playing in Miami.

I’d have to say 75-25. I really don’t know if I’m in the Dolphins’ minds right now. I can’t talk to anybody right now, so I really don’t know. The Giants have the upper hand right now, I love New York, I have a place there and I have a lot of fans there. So they have to have the high percentage right now

Yet, when Rosenberg replied by telling Bradshaw he’s in the Dolphins’ minds, Bradshaw shot back, “It would look great, wouldn’t it?”

(…)

With Brandon, they have him for two more years and they know what to expect from him. But with me, I just want to be a feature back. I feel like I can carry the ball a ton of times a game and I feel like I can put it on my shoulders.”

I think Bradshaw has about the right percentage. It’s probably about 75 percent likely that he stays in New York. I can’t imagine the Giants letting him hit the open market…unless they do a running back swap with the Dolphins and pursue Ronnie Brown.  The problem with Bradshaw is two fold is that B

radshaw had some character concerns entering the league, and Mike Garafolo wrote that “they are still there even though he’s stayed out of trouble” and the fact that the Giants have a more conservative coach who could want someone who holds onto the football better than Bradshaw.

We’ll see. Free Agency should be fun.

Lastly, John Clayton is unsure if the Seahawks want Matt Hasselbeck back. Hasselbeck is being linked often to the Titans, which could be a nice fit for him as the team looks to groom Jake Locker.

There are some interesting under-the-radar stories out there, I’ll have more for you tommorrow.
