NFL News Notes and Rumors

facebooktwitterreddit

Here are a few interesting stories I’ve found around the web.

From Donnie Avery’s twitter.

He seems to be recovered completely from his injury last year and that speed and his presence can only help a less than stellar Rams receiver corps, and Sam Bradfords continued development.

From NFL.com

Tony Romo says he’s healthy and that the Cowboys are working hard.

The commitment level from each guy on our team … it’s exciting from my perspective. As the quarterback, that’s what I wanted to see. The guys came out (to player-only workouts), and our team will be ready to go when this thing starts.” They were there every day,” Romo said. “When (the group leader) is there, it’s hard for the second, third, fourth and fifth guy not to

Many analysts have been picking the Cowboys to have a big bounce back year, but I’m not ready to buy into it yet. I think with a good Free agency period (which is more than plausible) the Cowboys could be ready, but there are still some over looked holes on that roster and they play in a tough division. Romo’s presence though can only help.

Buffalo Bills plan on using Aaron Williams as the nickel back early. Secondary coach George Catavalos said:

I liked his size, his ball skills,” Catavolos said. “I liked the way he challenged receivers. I liked his playmaking ability. I saw him in the nickel position and he did an outstanding job playing the slot receiver.

“When he comes in we’ll put him at the corner position and let him play and then work into our nickel package and I think that’ll be a very good fit for him.”

Brandon Marshall insists that his wife didn’t stab him.

I can’t talk about the details of the incident because it’s still an open case, but I did talk to the state attorney’s office last month and the one thing I made clear was my wife did not stab me. She didn’t assault me. We were having a marital dispute that got heated, but it didn’t happen as reported,” Marshall said.

“Like any young couple we have issues and hope to work through it. But it’s hard to pick up the pieces and try to move forward with the distance that the situation has created. I’m hopeful that we can move forward because I love my wife.”

He’s a talented player and Chad Henne’s NFL future could depend on having a reliable and productive Brandon Marshall. I still don’t think the Dolphins will be very good this year, but Marshall is one key player that could challenge my prognostication.

In a Question and Answering session, Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post said that the Broncos will have Kyle Orton open training camp as the starter and that he’s unlikely to be traded soon.

Coach John Fox has said that Kyle Orton will open training camp as the Broncos’ starting QB. A lot of people in the NFL don’t think Orton will be traded when the lockout ends, but that’s a possibility.

For now, the Broncos’ depth chart at QB is Orton (No. 1), Tebow (No. 2) and Brady Quinn (No. 3)

If Orton stays here, and for now it sounds like he will, Tebow will have his hands full.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle writes that Brian Cushing only gave a little insight into what he’s feeling about James Harrison’s comments.

When contacted Wednesday, Cushing’s only response was, “I’ll pray for him.”

Lastly some Lions news.

Cliff Avril wants a long term deal and the Lions are going to go after linebackers in free agency.

The top choice between Stephen Tulloch (was with Schwarz in Tennessee) or Justin Durant?

Suprisingly, Durant.

The source told the website that Durant would be the team’s top choice over Tulloch because of his positional flexibility — he can play inside or outside linebacker. Tulloch can only play middle linebacker.
Well hopefully you found something read-worthy there and continue to check back as we start getting into scouting reports, team previews, more 2012 mock drafts, fantasy football and all else football.
