Donovan McNabb’s Next Stop the Minnesota Vikings?

It isn’t football season until there are rumors about the Vikings adding a washed up quarterback to their roster.

Previous two seasons: Brett Favre. This season? Donovan McNabb.

Minnesota has been considered a very possible landing spot for Donovan McNabb this off-season, with good reasoning. Coming to Minnesota would reunite the veteran quarterback with Leslie Frazier, who was a Defensive Backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles when they brought in McNabb.

Maybe even more significantly, a specific member of the Minnesota Vikings has made it public about his interest in playing with the Redskins quarterback. Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe said he has talked to McNabb this off-season about joining the Vikings this upcoming season.

“I told him, ‘Hey, look , you know, Minnesota might be a good fit for you.’ I think that he would probably agree on that.”

However, head coach Leslie Frazier has seemed convinced that their new first round draft pick, Christian Ponder, was going to come in and start from day one.

“Ideally, I’d like for him to be ready to go when we play San Diego [in Week One],” Frazier said during a segment with 1500 ESPN Twin Cities. “That would be the ideal situation — we’ve got our Matt Ryan, we’ve got our [Joe] Flacco, we’ve got our [Mark] Sanchez right here.”

With that said, Frazier also continued on to say this.

“It would be tough to be able to send him out there against San Diego if we don’t start football, if we don’t report until, say, mid-August, or three weeks prior to the season. So, that’ll probably answer what direction we go — based on when we start football.”

In other words, the Minnesota Vikings will pursue a veteran quarterback, and Donovan McNabb seems to be at the top of the list.
