Round 5

Hidden Gems

D.J. Wlliams to the Packers

The Packers now how to get it done. Williams is a talented pass catcher in the 5th round.

Cris Carter, OLB, Steelers

Carter is a player who could absolutely be a steal in the Steelers defense. He has solid pass rushing ability. I think it’s a steal for the Steelers in round 5 of the draft.

Round 6

The “Tom Bradys”

Quan Sturdivant to the Cardinals

Sturdivant took a major hit on draft day, as a prospect that was projected to go in the middle of the second round. Sturdivant was productive and one of the best linebackers in this class. I was surprised how far he feel in the draft and thought the Cardinals will be glad they stopped the free fall. A lot of the North Carolina players fell in the draft except for Bruce Carter.

Jordan Todman to the Chargers

Todman’s free fall ended with the Chargers who found themselves a good player and great insurance if Darren Sproles leaves via free agency even though they are different kind of players, Todman is more than serviceable as a receivier and situational guy at the N.F.L.

round 7

Love it

Virgil Green to the Broncos

In the 7th round why not take a flier on a guy with huge upside. Most 7th round picks don’t make rosters so might as well grab one who has elite athletic ability, which Green does have. It’s similar to the Giants pick, but of Da’rel Scott who runs a 4.35 40 yard dash at running back. Maybe he won’t become anything, but that kind of speed is absolutely elite, might as well make the pick and hope something happens in the 7th round. Ahmahd Bradshaw was also drafted in the 7th round by the Giants so maybe they’ll have the same kind of luck.

Brandyn Thompson to the Redskins

This was just a personal rooting interest pick. I interviewed Thompson and he seemed like a really great guy and I was rooting for him to get drafted, but on that same token I think he was good value in the 7th round. He’s not the biggest, strongest, or fastest, but he is a playmaker and is a glue guy. He just loves football and will do whatever you ask of him on the field. Good pick by the Redskins here.

Be sure to check back over the next month as we take an in-depth look pick by pick for each team in the draft.
