NFL Mock Draft: Indianapolis Colts

facebooktwitterreddit

I’m using Drafttek’s mock draft to make this mock draft.

I’ll make different picks than what draftek ended up with to give Colts fans two mocks.

1st Round pick 22: Anthony Castanzo, T, Boston College

Draftek pick: Gabe Carimi

Colts fans might want someone like Carimi to help out the run game, but that’s just not what the Colts do well. Castanzo, to me is the pefect fit for the Colts in the first round and the ideal first round pick.

Because of my love for Brandon harris and how good I think he could be playing for a team like the Colts I almost mocked him to the Colts, but  I couldn’t do that with a clean conscience with Castanzo still on the board.

2nd round pick: Benjamin Ijalana, OL, Villanova

Draftek pick: Quinton Carter

I think the Colts should consider going back to back OL if possible. At this point Ijanala will still available, a guy some predict could sneak into the bottom portion of the first round I thought the value here might be too great for the Colts to pass up.

3rd Round pick 87: Jurrell Casey, DT, USC

Draftek pick Will Rackley

Scout Dave Razzano said this about Jurrell Casey. “when people are doing re-mock drafts in a few years Jurrell Casey will be a top 7 pick”. He’s a guy who can get in and pressure the quarterback and is just a good player overall. He could start immediately for the Colts and at this point is hard to pass up.

4th round pick: 119th:  Tandon Doss, WR, Indiana

Draftek pick: Buster Skrine

Tandon Doss has some injury concerns, but if not for that he’s a 2nd round pick. I know Fans don’t want to hear “injury concerns” at the WR position, but injuries are unpredictable. The Colts WR corps is not great. Peyton Manning is. The Colts need to regroup on offense this off-season to give Peyton his best chance to succeed. Adding two talented OL early in the draft and then sprinkling in another talented WR will do wonders for the offense. Garcon is a pretty good player, but very inconsistent.

5th round pick: Robert Sands, S, West Vrigina

Draftek pick: Terrell McClain

The Colts could use another safety and Sands has great upside at this point. There aren’t a ton of good safety prospects in this class, but Sands is intriguing. What’s also intriguing about Sands is that if he doesn’t work out as a Safety for the Colts he might be able to play linebacker for them as they prefer fast linebackers who can cover in their base defense and those are things Sands could excel at. I like Sands for the Colts a lot.

Though it’s hard to argue with the McClain pick, which is a good one.

6th Round Pick: Josh Thomas, CB, Buffalo

Drafttek pick: Mario Fanin, RB, Auburn

I mentioned that I think the Colts could use another cornerback and that I love Brandon harris as a fit for the Colts, but that’s not likely. Josh Thomas is the kind of player the Colts will love. He’s loved by teammates, he has good speed, good size, he just plays the Colts way. He can pitch in on special teams (which the Colts are awful at). pretty good hands, good route recognition skills. He’s just a solid all around player.
