Report: Redskins Have Legitimate Interest in Ryan Mallett for No. 10 Pick

facebooktwitterreddit

Interesting news was reported Monday night on NFL Network’s Path to the Draft when Michael Lombardi claimed that a source “extremely close to the Washington Redskins” told him the Redskins are very interested in former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett with the tenth overall pick.

Lombardi also added that he believed Mallet would go at least in the top 20 picks of the first round. Many have linked the Redskins and head coach Mike Shanahan to former Washington quarterback Jake Locker, who struggled last season with his accuracy after a very impressive 2009 season and who many thought would have been the No. 1 overall pick had he entered the 2010 NFL Draft.

While a report like this is definitely something to note, it is also important to keep in mind that many types of these reports could be floating around over the next week or so. Every year, it seems as though writers around the country claim a team is in love with a certain prospect or is afraid of drafting prospect due to injury; and many times they end up being somewhat off when all is said and done based on what those teams actually did. However, Lombardi is also one of the best insiders in the business in my opinion and I have no doubt that he has sources that are close to teams around the league. The main question is whether or not they are giving him true information.

What we do know is the Redskins are in play for a quarterback in the first two rounds of the draft and I would not be surprised at all to see them go with a quarterback with the tenth overall pick.
