Get to Know the Redskins: HailRedskins Interview Double Dose

facebooktwitterreddit

We’re getting a double dose of answers from Redskins fans in this installment. The first set of answers comes from member Ankhhrous, and the second from SkinsKY

1). What are the Redskins biggest needs?

A. QB, Center, Y WR/Flanker, OG, DL, LB playmaker, CB
2). For those who don’t know, how does the Redskins front office work on draft day now?

A. From all reports its Mike Shanahan who makes the decisions for the team. Bruce Allen has some input(how much is open for debate), but its Shanahan’s decisions being made
3). Seems like a softball question: but do the Redskins regret the trade for Donovan McNabb last year?

A. If the coaching staff didn’t trust him from Day 1(and Kyle Shanahan never wanted him in the first place), which seems like a fair assessment, they probably do.

4). Are there any players that seem to be fan favorite picks for the first round?

A. Well, every fan has their personal choices for different reasons. I think that most fans want a QB in the first two rounds and either an offensive lineman or defensive front 7 guy with the other top pick.
5). Looking at the Redskins roster there are 17 players listed as going into the second season next year: http://www.nfl.com/teams/roster?d-44…NFL_EXPERIENCE Does this say anything about the Redskins talent level…are many of these guys going to be on the roster next year?

A. There are only eight players on that list who contributed much during the 2010 season, most of the rest of them are practice squad fodder. I don’t think that it says a lot about the talent level.

6) Who are the best and worst picks of the past decade for the Redskins?

A. Best: Chris Cooley Worst: Devin Thomas.
7).Is it possible that no free agency could actually be a positive thing for the Redskins?

A. No because they have too many holes to fill and “no free agency” means that they’re stuck with McNabb/Haynesworth.
8). How are the last two draft classes coming along?

A. Hit and miss. They have some regular starters in Trent Williams and Orakpo+some prospects for the future in Kevin Barnes, Erik Cook, Perry Riley, Terrance Austin and Selvish Capers. However, they also have a ton of crap that either has been cut or will be soon.
8a) springboarding off the last question: if they could do it over again Trent Williams or Russel Okung?

A. Williams. Williams is a much better player right now. Williams faced some top flight rushers in his rookie year and did a great job(particularly how he did against DeMarcus Ware in week 1 and Mario Williams until he got hurt). Okung looks lost whenever I’ve seen him play.
9). Are there any picks Redskins fans would Hate at 10th ovreall?

A. 10th overall. I think that most fans would think that something like a RB or CB would be a waste of a pick. Not because they wouldn’t contribute–they would, but the Skins have much bigger needs.
10. Shanahan is known for tuurning running back water into running back wine with the Broncos, but do you think it’s possible they look for a running back early in the draft?

A. Nope. Not at all. Shanny is more likely to go big FA name or mid/late rounds.

1).What are the Redskins biggest needs?

A new owner. Seriously. Until Danny grows out of his pull ups, the talent this team has will be wasted. I’m in the process of developing a resistance to iocaine powder to try and get some movement on that fron. If you want to want to talk players, We could use a couple of guards, a couple of receivers, a running back or two, a QB, A CB who doesn’t have blocks for hands, a safety, a Dlineman or two, and another LB or two. So, we’re just a couple players away from a Super Bowl…

2). For those who don’t know, how does the Redskins front office work on draft day now?

Mostly, we’re idle. We almost always make our first round choice, and then we sit for a while. Since 2007, we’ve had three 2nd round picks, but they were all in the same draft class (Of those Davis is the only one that’s been on the field. Malcolm Kelly’s perpetually with the trainers, and Devin Thomas might as well go emo he’s been cut so much). After that, we’ve had a combined 4 picks in the 3rd and fourth rounds, and then we get busy in the 5-7 rounds where 59% of our picks have been. For us, it’s like the Golden Corral (editor’s note: Golden Gorral is a buffet style restaurant): not much is good, but we’ve got a whole lot of it.\

3). Seems like a softball question: but do the Redskins regret the trade for Donovan McNabb last year?

In hindsight, yes. But, I think it was the Shanahan’s own doing. Donovan could have been successful last year, but Kyle is too petulant, and Daddy is too permissive. Especially, considering Sexy Rexy is the back up.
4). Are there any players that seem to be fan favorite picks for the first round?

Quarterbacks are getting a lot talk. Gabbert, Capernick, Ponder and others are being talked about a good bit. Receivers as well, as they give that speed/size sexiness that people drool over. AJ Green, Julio Jones pop up a good bit.

5). Looking at the Redskins roster there are 17 players listed as going into the second season next year:*** ****http://www.nfl.com/teams/roster?d-44…CE*** ****Does this say anything about the Redskins talent level…are many of these guys going to be on the roster next year?

For the first time, I’m starting to feel pretty good about some of our young players. I don’t know where 17 falls in comparison to the rest of the league, but with Trent Williams, Anthony Armstrong, Keiland Williams, Terrence Austin, and Brandon Banks we have some potential, but that’s not usually our problem. The coaching staff, until this year, has always seemed very reluctant to toss the young kids out there and see what they can do. Instead we see vets who are past their prime or just untalented, and they bottleneck the young kids. Most of the time, we just hear practice reports and gripe about why <insert player here> isn’t getting snaps. Who knows if they’re better, but it’s not often we get to see them get a chance on the field. Even when know we’re staring at a top 10 pick in the draft.

6) Who are the best and worst picks of the past decade for the Redskins?

Devin Thomas, Reed Doughty (only because we see him play way too much), and Carlos Rogers line my naughty list.

The late Sean Taylor, Chris Cooley, Laron Landry (after this past season), Trent Williams (at his current trajectory make up the good ones.

7).Is it possible that no free agency could actually be a positive thing for the Redskins?

Not really. In one sense, it gives us less opportunity to screw things up, but I’m not excited about going into the next season with the current squad.

8). How are the last two draft classes coming along?

Trent Williams and Orakpo will be perennial Pro-Bowlers. I’d cut you a deal on the rest of the picks.

8a) springboarding off the last question: if they could do it over again Trent Williams or Russel Okung?

In a heartbeat. I barely watch Okung play last year, but watching Trent, I’m thrilled with what we have. He still needs some experience, but he’s physically gifted and has a some great tools. It’s not easy stepping in for Chris Samuels who the fans loved and held down the blind side for a decade, but Trent can handle it. Great pick.

9). Are there any picks Redskins fans would Hate at 11th overall?

Cam Newton. Although we are in need of an icon, so it might make sense.

10. Shanahan is known for turning running back water into running back wine with the Broncos, but do you think it’s possible they look for a running back early in the draft?

I doubt it would be early (first two rounds), as the feature back concept drifts further and further from mainstream, there should be plenty of serviceable backs throughout the draft.

11). Tell us a little bit about the site and why our readers should come and visit?
We’re smart, we bathe semi-regularly, many of us love X’s and O’s, we run trolls out of town, and every once in a while, we like to

get a little snippy with each other, but it’s good fun. Many of our members are over 10 years strong together (Just realized that as I typed it. That’s crazy to me) and cover almost every age from high school to Shally, who sailed with Odysseus.

12) Anything else to add…?

Keep your bourbon away from akhhorus. He always steals it when you look away…If anything, almost all of us (maybe all) are sick of Snyder. Just tired of him and his antics. But we love this team, even when it kills us.
