Blaine Gabbert Shines at Missouri Pro Day
Following Missouri’s pro day, which NFL Network analyst described as having around 100-150 professional scouts in attendance, the buzz was all about quarterback Blaine Gabbert.
In fact, Gabbert had such a fine day that NFL Network scouts are gushing over him. Mike Mayock went so far as to say that the “bottom line” was that Gabbert would be the first quarterback selected, and right now it seems like the Carolina Panthers are leading in that direction. Fellow NFL Network analyst Michael Lombardi has indicated in his previous mock drafts that Gabbert will be selected by the Panthers first overall, and he thinks this workout has solidified it.
“The only way I’m going to beat New Orleans or Atlanta is to have a quarterback,” Lombardi said on Path to the Draft. “If I’m the Carolina Panthers, he’s on the card I’m turning in. I need Blaine Gabbert right now.”
Clearly there are strong feelings about Gabbert around NFL Network, and whether or not they are warranted is another discussion entirely. Gabbert has had troubles with decision making as Missouri’s starter, but NFL teams have to be impressed with his combination of size, athleticism, and arm strength.
Notables in attendance at Missouri’s pro day (among the 32 teams) were 49ers head coach John Harbaugh, Marvin Lewis (Bengals), Leslie Frazier (Vikings), John Fox (Broncos), Mike Munchak (Titans), and Rex Ryan (Jets). Gabbert is scheduled to have a private workout with Carolina, as well as a dinner with the Minnesota Vikings.
