2011 NFL mock draft: Going the Distance
This is final round of my seven round mock. I’m not going to do too many explanations in this round as teams are just looking to find players they think can make the roster.
193. Green Bay Packers-Shiloh Keo, S, Idaho
Previous Picks: Mike Pouncey, D.J. Williams, Siona Fua, Delone Carter, Derek Newton, Denarius Moore
194. Cincinnati Bengals-Bilal Powell, RB, Louisville
One reason the Bengals played much worse this past season then the year before is because they were unable to pound the ball with Cedric Benson. Powell is a bruising running back that could go much higher than here. Powell would be great value to the Bengals here and might bring back some physicality and tough runs that they were missing last year.
Previous Picks: Julio Jones, Ryan Mallett, Jaiquwqnn Jarrett, Will Rackley, Markus White, Owen Maceric
195. Buffalo Bills-Jeff Maehl, WR, Oregon
Previous picks: Von Miller, Gabe Carimi, Colin Kaperenick, Lance Kendricks, Colin McCarthy, Brandyn Thompson, Eric Hagg
Not an explosive athlete, but good value here as a good solid football player. The Bills might be deepest at WR position on their whole team, but they still aren’t great there. Maehl might be a player who could thrive in Chain Gailey’s system.
196. Denver Broncos: Darren Evans, RB, Va Tech
Previous Picks: Da’Quan Bowers, Kyle Rudolph, Drake Nevis, Johnny Patrick, Chris Neild
Evans is a good value pick here, and in fact I probably have running backs falling too far throughout this whole draft.
197. New York Jets-Ryan Whalen, WR, Stanford
A good sized possession Wide Receiver. The Jets could use depth at WR depending on what happens with Braylon Edwards, Holmes and Brad Smith.
Previous picks: Akeem Ayers, Randall Cobb, Cedric Thornton, Joe Lefedged, Greg McElroy
198. Seattle Seahawks-Kris O’Dowd, Center
Previous Picks: Cam Newton, Jurrel Casey, Henry Hynoski, Joe Barksdale, Terrance Toliver, Cortez Allen
At one time O’Dowd was a second round pick, but countless injuries a down year and a terrible pre-draft process has really made O’Dowd’s stock slip. Still in the 7th round he’s a great pick as a guy who might even be able to start sometime.
199. San Francisco 49ers-Rob McGill, T, Louisiana Tech
Previous Picks: Patrick Peterson, Chrisitan Ponder, Kelvin Sheppard, Daniel Thomas, Lawrence Guy, Marcus Gilchrist , Dwayne Harris, Charlie Gnatt
200. Tennessee Titans: David Carter, DT, UCLA
Previous Picks: A.J. Green, Marvin Austin, Curtis Brown, Ricky Stanzi, Roy Helu, Brian Rolle
201. Washington Redskins–Craig Stevens, OLB, Auburn
Previous Picks: Jake Locker, Ryan Williams, Greg Salas, Rickey Elmore, Jalil Brown
202. Houston Texans-Mark LeGree, S, Appalachian State
Previous Picks:Phil Taylor, Titus Young, Brooks Reed, Chykie Brown, Tim Barnes, Devon Torrence
Had a very nice pre-draft process so far and has put himself on the map..He’ll be drafted, perhaps even earlier than this.
203. Minnesota Vikings: Dion Lewis, RB, Pittsburgh
Previous picks: Blaine Gabbert, Muhammad Wilkerson, Curtis Marsh, Brandon Bair, Ronald Johnson, Zach Pinialto
Lewis was very productive at Pittsburgh, and is good value here. Even though the Vikings have Peterson and Gerherat they can’t pass on his talent here as a high upside low risk kind of pick.
204. San Francisco 49ers–Bruce Miller, UCF
Previous Picks: Patrick Peterson, Chrisitan Ponder, Kelvin Sheppard, Daniel Thomas, Lawrence Guy, Marcus Gilchrist , Dwayne Harris, Charlie Gnatt, Rob McGill
205. St. Louis Rams-Shaun Draughn, RB, North Carolina
Previous Picks: Cameron Jordan, Mason Foster, Luke Stocker, Clint Boling, Cecil Short, Terrel McClain
I never thought much of Draughn until I watched him play in the Music City bowl game this year and I thought to myself, where has this been since he’s been there. He looked like he was playing at a faster speed than everyone else on the field, elusive ran had caught the ball. He was the best player that day and there are some talented players on North Carolina and Tennessee. That one tantalizing game might get him drafted late in the draft, where before he could have easily been overlooked.
206. Miami Dolphins-Akeem Dent, LB, Georgia
Previous Picks: Mikel LeShoure, Marcus Cannon, Casey Matthews, Rickardo Lockette, Noel Devine
207. Miami Dolphins: Steve Schilling, G, Michigan
Previous Picks: Mikel LeShoure, Marcus Cannon, Casey Matthews, Rickardo Lockette, Noel Devine, Akeem dent
208. Oakland Raiders-Ryan Pugh, C, Auburn
Previous Picks: Aaron Williams, Marcus Gilbert, Julius Thomas, Cliff Matthews, Brandon Saine
209. Dallas Cowboys-Tom Keiser, OLB, Stanford
Previous Picks: Nate Solder, Cameron Hewyard, Brandon Burton, Ahmahd Black, Chris Hairston, Brandon Fusco
The Cowboys have a lot of aging linebackers and could look to add youth on the inside and depth on the outside. Keiser is more of a pass rush specialist.
210. New York Giants-Eric Gordon, OLB, Michigan State
Previous Picks: Tyron Smith, Ras-I-Dowling, Jake Kirkpatrick, Jacquizz Rodgers, DeAndre Brown
211. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-Elijah Joseph, ILB, Temple
Previous Picks: Aldon Smith, Bruce Carter, Tyle Sash, John Moffitt, Adrian Moten, Pierre Allen
The Buccaneers need to add depth and more talent to the linebacker corps.
212. Kansas City Chiefs-Ryan Winterswyk, OLB, Boise State
Previous picks: Mark Ingram, Jason Pinkston, Dontay Moch, Ian williams, James Carpenter, Niles Paul,
A hard worker that the Chiefs could fall in love with. At this point in the draft just take players you think can make the roster. Winterswky could outwork everyone ahead of him and make it hard for the team to cut him.
213. Indianapolis Colts-Dejon Gomes, CB, Nebraska
Gomes is smaller with good ball skills, which is the kind of player that can excel in the Colts system.
Previous Picks: Anthony Castanzo, Rodney Hudson, Jarvis Jenkins, Kendall Hunter, Vincent Brown, Jermale Hines
214. Philadelphia Eagles-Mario Butler, CB, GA Tech
previous picks:Corey Liuget, Ben Ijalana, ReShad Carmichael, Greg Little, Doug Hogue, Jamie Harper
Just more cornerback help for a team that needs to find someone to play across from Asante Samuel.
215. New Orleans Saints-Rob Housler TE, Florida Atlantic
Previous Picks: Jimmy Smith, DeAndre McDaniel, Shane Vereen, Quan Sturdivant
Jimmy Graham will be the starter next year in all likelihood, but with Shockey’s release they could still look to add some depth at the TE position.
216. Baltimore Ravens-Stanley Havili, FB, Southern California
Previous picks: Jon Baldwin, Davon House, Sam Acho, Robert Sands, Jah reid
La’Ron McClain wants to be more of a feature back, and the Ravens could use a good full back. Havili is the best player available here as well.
217. Baltimore Ravens-Brandon Hogan, CB, West Virginia
Previous picks: Jon Baldwin, Davon House, Sam Acho, Robert Sands, Jah reid, Stanley Havili
218. Atlanta Falcons–J.T. Thomas OLB West Virginia
Previous Picks: Stephen Paea, Torrey Smith, Pernell Mcphee, Orlando Franklin, Will Hill, Taiwan Jones, Virgil Green
Even though they added Sean Weatherspoon last year, but they still need help at linebacker.
219. Jacksonville Jaguars-Lester Jean, WR, Florida Atlantic
Previous Picks: Ryan Kerrigan, Quinton Carter, Mark Herzlich, Chris L. Rucker, Edumund Gates, Pat Delvin, Alex Henerey
220. Detroit Lions-Evan Royster, RB, Penn State
I don’t think the Lions actually have this pick due to the tampering, but I’ll mock it here for now until I find out for sure (I keep seeing conflicting information).
Previous Picks: Prince Amukamara, Adrian Clayborn, Jerrell Jernigan, Brian Rolle, Scott Lutrus
221. Pittsburgh Steelers-Kai Forbath, K, UCLA
Previous picks: Rahim Moore, Christian Ballard, James Brewer, Derrick Locke, Adam Grant, Justin Rogers
222. Atlanta Falcons-Chas Henry, P
Previous Picks: Stephen Paea, Torrey Smith, Pernell Mcphee, Orlando Franklin, Will Hill, Taiwan Jones, Virgil Green, JT Thomas
I haven’t mocked a punter yet to any team so that’s why this happened. The Falcons punter wasn’t statistically great last year, maybe the Falcons bring in someone to push him as the Mr. Irrelevant pick in this year’s draft. (though that will change when compensatory picks are added).
