Day One Combine Notes: Videos of the Day
I can’t be at the combine myself, but I’m sill following the combine.
Here are some notes from those who did have media access to day one of the combine.
One mind blogging thing to note is that the Dallas Cowboys plan on meeting with Cam Newton at the combine. I don’t understand this at all. Chalk it up to due diligence I suppose.
Walterfootball.com has the official heights and weights of the TE and OL
Like we mentioned during the Senior Bowl coverage, the offensive linemen are an impressive weigh in bunch as all of the top OT have long arms and were solid build. Today the biggest winner though is USC OT Tyron Smith, who is ascending boards (I’ve mocked him to the Cardinals at 5 and the Cowboys at 9 in my last two mocks) and that continued today with him weighing in at 307 pounds and having 36 3/8 inch arms at 6’5” which is absolutely insane.

NFL.com/combine has a ton of great videos out today.

also to note about the combine is that Rex Ryan believes the Jets will win the Superbowl next year (when it happens all the time does it cease to become news)
Wes Bunting notes that both Gabe Carimi and Derrick Sherrod tried to let it be known who was the best OT in the class
Profootballtalk.com also throws praise at Tyron Smith
Another few things I read on the web today is that John Fox has said Kyle Orton will be the starter and not Tim Tebow.
And that Chan Gailey says Ryan Fitzpatrick can take the Bills to the playoffs…but he’s excited to see what Cam Newton can do.
Also, Tony Soprano didn’t give a ringing endorsement to QB Chad Henne which makes it likely that the Dolphins will look elsewhere for the QB position next season.
Today was Smith’s day, but he’s not the only Smith expected to make waves, as I fully expect CB Jimmy Smith to be the buzz at combine as well.
