Introducing: Video of the Day

We’re starting a new feature here at NFLmocks.com we’re going to call-simply-video of the day. Each day, we’ll take a look at a video that has something to do with the N.F.L and/or the draft, whether that will be prospect highlights, or commentators taking a look at prospects or anything else we can find.

This is the first video of the day, but moving forward the video of the day we’ll be under the “draft tools” tab at the top of the page along with the picks for every team and the trade value chart.

I’ll embed any videos that are not controlled by the N.F.L. into the post (and if I can figure out a way to get permission for those I’ll try)

Today, I’m going to direct you to look at an interesting Mike Mayock video in which he says,

“people think Jake Locker is an after thought, but guess, what, he’s not. He’s a top 15 talent in this draft”

and also says about Andy Dalton “(…) a guy who will move up the charts as we move closer and closer to the draft”

Mayock talks Newton and Locker at Senior bowl and Dalton.

Thoughts after the jump.

I think this is the first time I’ve seen someone come out to defend Jake Locker’s season this past season. Mayock does point out that Locker does have some issues to work through.

What I disagree with Mayock about is that Andy Dalton is the quarterback that is the sleeper moving on up (though he didn’t necessarily discount the other quarterbacks as possible risers) and I’d point to Colin Kapernick as a guy who is going to rise from the pre-draft process.

I like Locker as a possible pick in the second round, and I saw a comparison for him that I really liked, and that is Donovan Mcnabb.

Mcnabb is very athletic, with a big arm, but has some accuracy issues. To me it was always intersting that Mcnabb has  been running a West Coast offense, even though I’m not sure it’s the perfect fit for his skill set. A lot of times I hear people talk about how Locker is destined to go to a team like the Redskins or a different team that’s going to run a west coast offense.

Two questions:

1) Is Jake Locker an ideal fit for the West Coast offense?

#2) do you agree with Mayock’s assessment that Locker is still a top 15 talent in this draft?
